My niece has worked her way up the sports journalism field. She graduated from Northwestern University and worked at a few smaller-sized newspapers covering high school sports, then some college sports.
She recently has been asked to dabble in pro sports. It's definitely helping that she is a female and the papers went to show they are pushing the agenda to get more women in the field.
So she has been going to some Bears games and Bulls games this year. And yes, unlike the college level, she has be introduced to the professional sports male locker room. I guess I find it odd they don't just ban all reporters from the locker rooms, but as long as male reporters have access, the females must too.
So she and I had a nice chat at Thanksgiving. I waited a while in the conversation, but I had to eventually ask about going into the locker room as a young cutesy-type female. She said most guys are professional and know about when the reporters will be coming in, but yes, she definitely feels some guys checking her out and the light flirting.
I leaned in a little more wanting to see if she saw anything herself. She said yes. And she does her best to stay professional, but she said, "You can't help but look at some guys." LOL I totally knew what she meant. I egged her on. "You can't not notice some of these guys. Aunt M, I didn't know a guy could be that big."
Well, she now knows not all men are created equal.
