Wow, I don't get the Aussie market at all.

The 2008 base model 350Z lists just over $26k here. The Touring model is just over $30k, and the balls-to-the-wall Nismo edition goes for just over $35k.

As I said, still more than I'd pay for this car, but so far less than the pricing in your market. Wow.

I forgot to add "overpriced" to my list of adjectives for Japanese sports cars.

Corvette: $46,225, runs circles around a 350Z

that wasn't as hard as you made it sound.

and if we're including cars under 100 grand the list gets huge.

Corvette in this country is 150K, 350Z is 65K.

Yeah I know American cars are ridiculously overpriced in Australia. I can't believe anyone would even consider buying a Mustang at what they go for over there. Japanese cars are ridiculously overpriced in Australia, but not as bad as most of the American cars. They're overpriced in the USA, too, but apparently not nearly as much.

So what would be a better option than the 350 Z...I won't be using my Walkinshaw as a trade in.

Good girl. An idiot dealer wouldn't know what one was really worth anyway. If you stuck the original whels back on it and gave it to Duttons or Shannons to auction it'd proabably get over 70K at the moment.

Oh, and HazelGod, if only you knew what I really do!:biggrin1:

I think Ford were selling Mustang GT's for just on 100K. NOt too many moved at that price.

An F250 Turbodiesel crew cab is nearly 100 as well.

I took a dealer along for a lap of Mount Panorama in a new Holden GTS (Holden Special Vehicles for the non Aussies), 300+kW.... and it was one fast lap... he didn't flinch... huge kudos to him... not a word said! Awesome car, awesome track, sad about the price tag!

Did you go to the Jellins event up there the other week? I haven't heard any stories yet but there has to have been a couple of write offs.

Test drove one of these last year..not that impressed. I also had a 94 300Z and a 91 Mr2 Turbo that would do circles around this car. Kept the Z until the Turbo's started to rape my ass. Bitch to fix and alot of $$$$ to maintain as the miles got high. Traded it in for my 2k1 Cobra. But never have as much fun as I did in that car..or the Mr2 for that matter. But you can't beat American Muscle

Thanks Chuck!!
No amount of money would prize the Walkinshaw out of my hot grubby hands.
I love that car, but the poor dear is getting a bit long in the tooth.

The higher prices of cars imported into Australia might be due to tariffs. I don't know Australia's tariff schedule, but many countries impose tariffs of 15-30% on cars and even higher tariffs on luxury or performance models.

Korea's tariffs are absolutely ridiculous. They don't want any competition for the domestic models. If you go there you will only ever see Kia, Hyundai, Daewoo and Samsung models on the road. Even Japanese cars are rare, and they're right next door. I was going to import my Viper when I moved there but I would have had to pay 150-200% of the value of the car in various fees to bring it into the country. I saw one Viper in Itaewon a couple times, I assume it belonged either to a US serviceman (they don't have to pay the taxes to bring cars in, and there's a base right by Itaewon) or a criminal (also a lot of Russian mafia there). There would be the occasional Mini or Beamer parked outside of the clubs in Hongdae every weekend- people trying to impress everyone... but that was pretty much it.

NO, our tarrif plan is pretty small and was slashed in the late eighties. For example, a Jeep Wrangler is $AUD34K (USD28K) drive away incl on road costs at the moment.

It has a lot to do with the fact that we drive on the right (correct) side of the road and also whatever the car company can think they'll get away with.
