Looks like it has potential for the treatment of erectile dysfunction: Nitroglycerin Gel For Erectile Dysfunction Treatment | Men’s Health

It does have the traditional side effects of nitroglycerin (also used to treat chest pain and anal fissures): lightheadedness, dizzyness, flushing, etc... not good for people with heart problems. These side effects might be reduced because of the smaller dosage for erectile dysfunction.

From the description, it sounds like the closest thing to a working penis enlargement cream, though it wouldn't have permanent effects.

A bit more technical information here: Potential Breakthrough Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction - Pharmaphorum

Don't try this at home.

... and the jokes start in 3, 2, 1...

Trust me, you're gonna get the worst headache of your life if you try jerking off with that stuff as lube. I know from first hand experience. Not jerking off, but doing CPR and getting a small dab on my wrist. Your blood pressure drops, your head wants to explode, and honestly, considering the position I was in at the time, I really don't think my dick did anything...

Isn't Nitroglycerin the thing that EXPLODES? And you're going to put it on your PENIS?!?

I'm pretty sure they were saying somewhere that you have to wear gloves to apply the gel. I've got no intention of trying this stuff... I was looking for a semi-plausible magic chemical to write a story with... Caverject and Trimix are unattractive options (except to masochists).

Okay, how about "Blown Away". As for speaking American, absolutely! I mean, you can put a boot into a car. You can put a boot into a trunk. Who puts a boot in a boot? In our independent country, we put feet into boots. But we love you and stand with you even if you've forgotten how to speak. Oh, did you know that the closest you can come to the accent spoken during Elizabethan times is American West Virginian hillbilly? Weird, but true. And stay off the nitro. The headache is really nasty.

If I were writing fiction, I'd speculate that the Viagra / Cialis mafia shut them down, but there might have been more mundane reasons for the failed application as well. Apricus' stock price dropped dramatically after the announcement and it sounds unlikely that they'll recoup their investment in the short run.

While nitroglycerin IS also used in explosives, it's not the super explosive per se. Not confusing it with TNT (trinitrotoluene), are you?

No I know the difference between the words TNT and Nitroglycerin.

From Wikipedia:

Nitroglycerin (NG), also known as nitroglycerine, trinitroglycerin (TNG), nitro, glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), or 1,2,3-trinitroxypropane, is a dense, colorless, oily, explosive liquid most commonly produced by nitrating glycerol with white fuming nitric acid under conditions appropriate to the formation of the nitric acid ester.
