    From the NYT:
"MTV executives have a new hit drama on their hands, featuring the sexual and drug-fueled exploits of misfit teenagers. They also have something else — a fear that coming episodes of the show may break the law.

In recent days, executives at the cable channel became concerned that some scenes from the provocative new show “Skins” may violate federal child pornography statutes.

The executives ordered the producers to make changes to tone down some of the most explicit content.

They are particularly concerned about the third episode of the series, which is to be broadcast Jan. 31. In an early version, a naked 17-year-old actor is shown from behind as he runs down a street. The actor, Jesse Carere, plays Chris, a high school student whose erection — assisted by erectile dysfunction pills — is a punch line throughout the episode..."

The British Skins has been a topic of discussion on this site before. It seems to have grown a sizable fan-base in the UK. According to the article the first show had a large audience earlier this week.

Americans sometimes don't have the stomach for nudity that Brits and Europeans have...and we are particularly sensitive to underage (for US that is 18) sex. The American restaurant chain Taco Bell has already pulled their advertisements during the show. The Parents Television Council, a TV watchdog group with conservative tendencies, called on Congress and the US Justice Department to investigate the show regarding child pornography and exploitation.

Have you seen Skins - and if so, did you think it went over the line? I have yet to see it...if I remember I might try to watch it later this week.

For the Brits...has there been any controversy about the show there?

I've seen skins. It wasn't bad. Strange storylines, but I don't believe it crossed the line at all. It had his good and bad episodes. You have to like the story to watch it I believe. And yes, there is the occasionally nudity in it, and yes it is between teenagers. But the program is about teenagers and how it is to grow up with certain difficulties in life, and they just show all aspects of it. Nothing strange about that.
I don't see a bumshot as offensive, or the fact that a guy takes some erectile dysfunction pills. Those are actually quite funny to see.

So I don't get the fuss that is made over there in the US... It's just nudity...

As far as I can tell from watching the news is the biggest problem most people are having with it is they are using actors under the age of 18 (which is the same reason I removed your link to MTV)
I've never seen the show (but from the clips on the news) it actually looked pretty tame compared to my life when I was 16.

Friends of mine adore the original Skins, and one of them posted this stupid gif on Facebook.

    Made me laugh.

Ya...that probably says it all doesn't it? Why won't MTV just broadcast the original and let it stand on its own? Oh ya...censorship...never mind.

Skins has been broadcast in Australia for several years in a late night time slot. I really enjoyed seasons one, two and three. I haven't seen all episodes in season four, but I didn't engage with the new characters and it became a bit moribund.

Can't see any reason why it shouldn't be on TV at an appropriate time.

Skins is/was just a run of the mill TV show over here, it didn't make headlines or cause a stir. It remains popular among it's target audience and older viewers as well (thanks in part to cameo appearances by various comics and actors). It's not at all scandalous and I can think of much more headline grabbing stuff show on TV every week here in the UK, for example this.

If they think it's bad now, wait until they get to the really juicy stuff further down the story line.

I downloaded the US version just to see what it was about, it's very tame by comparison. People who are outraged by this sort of thing really need to find something real to worry about.

If the Disney channel can have their 17 year old starlet pose nude in vanity fair, why can't MTV have their 17 year old stars doing.... whatever it is they do on "Skins"? (haven't seen it, sorry)
