Actually folks, there are any number of reasons why this beautiful city has been crumbling the last few years, including the intentional underfunding of the City Pension system, along with a boost in benefits (to avoid actually paying workers more in salary) being chief among them. What's odd is that at the same time our finances were going down the drain, our fair city was booming, and becoming more sophisticated and cosmopolitan. The new baseball stadium downtown has made Downtown so much different. The number of skyscrapers downtown probably tripled. We have nationally recognized restaurants, bars, and dance clubs now. I think our (liberal, pro gay marriage) Republican mayor, along with our 6-2 Democratic-majority City Council, has turned things around dramatically. We have been brought from the brink of bankruptcy, and are doing no worse than any other municipality in the country during the recession. We have one of the largest concentrations of military power in the world, and also one of the country's largest biotech and pharmaceutical clusters, and are a world leader in solar power, with the highest number of household powered by solar panels in the country. Plus, it was in the high 60s yesterday on the coast, and is projected to get that high today, so you know- life aint that bad.
