My barber tells me that most men, by the time they hit 40, have problems with hairs growing out of their nostrils. His solution is radical. He burns them. He turns each nostril as inside out as he can, lights a wick, and in one quick flourish burns the hairs to the roots. He usually needs two goes to do both nostrils.

While it’s pretty effective as a method of hair removal, it is a bit violent for a sensitive nose. And mine have generally grown out again before I need my hair cut again.

Does anyone else have a problem with nose hairs sticking out? How do you deal with them?

I have a little battery operated tiny hair cutter thing... the sensation of the vibration makes my eyes water... but I put it in and twist it to hit all the hair... works fine...same with ears... I do it about once a week. There's nothing more gross than a man with hairs sticking out if his nose and ears.... yuck!

The battery operated nose hair trimmer works fine. I use it every few months or so (less in winter, when you want the hair to catch germs, etc.)

My inner nose is a little hairy. I trim just about every day. I have a couple growing on top of my nose as well. Snip snip.

The nose hair trimmer works great. I wouldn't be up for burning the hairs.

I have a Panasonic wet/dry trimer. Use it about once a month.

Real men deal with them by plucking them out by the roots....the burning sounds fun too...

get a trimmer. Do not pluck - plucking can very quickly lead to infection/inflammation.

Thanks guys for all the information. I should have guessed there was a high tech solution.

If the burning is done very quickly it only burns off the hairs (and smells like burnt pig!) but I wonder what would happen if the barber got distracted during the burn-off.

I did start off by just pulling the hairs out (my nose objected strenuously), but now there are just too many anyway. None to speak of on the ears though, but I suppose they will come soon enough.

I just yank them out. Usually when I'm driving long distance and begin to get a bit drowzy. Just yank one or two of the little buggers out and BLAM! -- I'm wide awake again.

    there are 2 methods i can think of;

get a cotton bud and dip it in honey...
put it up ur nose and twirl it around - allowing hairs to wrap arund it....

leave it for 5 mins to set...
then "pull" it as hard as u can...

    or

get a pair of battery operated nose clippers.. the cheapest ones cost 3 quid from tesco....

    ;-)

I had a family member end up in ICU and spent 10 days in the hospital recovering from the infection after plucking a nose hair.

    DO NOT PLUCK!

Staph germs are in our noses and can enter the bloodstrean in the skin opening when you pluck.

One incidence of a nasty Staph infection out of the billions of pluckings done every day?

Might as well give up sex, too. Because of all the people who die of heart attacks during intercourse.

Let me be real sexist here. Women should worry about their armpit and leg hair, and the S&M involved in a bikini wax. Let men worry about how best to deal with forests growing from out nostrils.

Cougar: I know you mean't well and love you for your concern.
