Are there any other sites for guys lookin' to hook up in your area? Even just to find friends in your area? Sorry to seem so dumb.

Adam4Adam can be a good time, esp. if you're white looking for black, or vice versa. ;-)

My old roommate used Adam4Adam a lot. Seems like a good site and a pretty good age spread.

Squirt.org seems to be more for cruising than hooking up. I guess I see them as a slight difference (cruising being more public sex, versus having a guy come to your house). Not only that, it seems like most of the guys on squirt.org are in their 50s/60s. If that's the age range you're going for, there ya go.

Gay.com just isn't what it used to be. I was on yesterday but only log on about once every two or three months. Also older guys, but probably more around the 40s/50s range.

There are several applications for the iPhone/Droid that I think has taken away a lot of traffic from gay.com and other sites. Depending on your preference of guys, you could use Grindr, Scruff, or Growlr. Grindr is specifically guys in your area. It shows the 100 guys closest to you. The other two apps show guys near you, and also a random assortment of guys throughout the world.

I've been in the same boat. Online I have had absolutely zero results in about 3-4 months of looking and posting ads. It can make you feel dejected in a way to think that no one is interested in you. But you have to remember that online is not exactly real world. People have an idea of what you look like based on a picture and an ad. Not very credible.

So I decided to go to a gay and lesbian bar and see if I got the same results. Bingo. Much different result. Out of the only 2 guys I showed interest in, the first guy was in a relationship but admitted that he thought I was "really good looking". The second guy also thought I was cute and we ended up having a good time and making out for a couple of hours.

Incidentally, I wasn't looking for any guys in their 20's, since that seems awfully young, but there weren't that many guys there to begin with since it was mainly a lesbian bar. These two guys just happened to be very nice looking. But anyway, just goes to show that real life and internet dating is still miles apart.

Hang with it, don't feel rejected, but maybe go out to a gay bar and see how different it is. That's my experience and suggestion.

Gay.com really has died, hasn't it? It was the main way guys met each other sexually and non-sexually where I live for years (which is just south of where you live). About a year or two ago it began to crash as others have said. I have no idea how guys meet each other around here...maybe through Facebook?

I wish it worked out that well for me. I get 99% replies from other black guys which I'm mostly not into with some exceptions. Most of the white guys aren't interested in blacks. But it might have a lot to do with the area. It has been the only site where I've met any local guys though.

About a year ago gay.com charged my card for a full year's subscription after I cancelled my membership! I was told this was their policy!! I felt completely screwed and will never went back to that site ever!!!
So I was cruising around and found LPSG. Everything works for the best.
Sucessfully meeting local guys on the internet... I have one friend who has done it. He used I think it was Silverdaddy and yes they were both 'mature' gay men.
Otherwise, I agree bars are the best place to find a guy for a hook up. Ironically, I've always had the best 'luck' at bars when I'm visiting other cities.

Gay.com is dying/dead.
I have good record with Adam4Adam when in CA.
Here in Chennai PlanetRomeo.com is popular.
If you have smartphone try Grindr. I speak to a lot of guys on it though I haven't yet met anyone in person.
Dudesnude.com and losg.org have helped me make a lot of online friends.
I have even met a guy who was fan on my pics on flickr.com
Many years back yahoo chatrooms used to be popular but they have been shutdown.

There are regional variations to consider, the kind of "scene" you are looking for, how you want to project yourself, what kind of connections (hookup?date?ltr?) and so on... so go to multiple sites and try your luck. Even the best of us don't get any from just one site ;)

At least down here in South Florida, the most reliable way to meet guys online for hook-ups in Manhunt. Personally I find Adam4Adam frustrating to use, though it's been years since I've logged on and hopefully they've made some improvements.

I think the key to finding luck (and getting the right guys) is to be as explicit and honest in your profile as possible as regards what you are looking for. Good pix are also a requirement.

I don't think it's ironic that you have better luck at bars in other cities. In other cities Red you are new to them!!

Gay.com was such a big deal for the smaller cities that don't have bars for gay people to meet. If you are in a bigger place you just switch your venue, if you are in a smaller place, you have a lasting relationship with your hand.

You're right. I gave Adam4Adam and Squirt a try. Didn't pan out for me. Thanks for all the advice.
I give up for now.

Gay.com is deader than hell. I honestly don't know how they can even keep the site up anymore. Adam4Adam seems to be full of fakes and flakes. I have run into a few guys on there would could actually carry on a conversation... damn few. LOL

I don't know where guys are meeting these days. I don't think it is Facebook because most of the gay guys I am friends with on FB do not give any indication that they are gay on their FB profile because everyone knows that employers are looking at that stuff. How would one know who is gay on there and who is not?

Many guys I used to chat with on Gay.com were way in the closet. I am wondering since it is has become much more socially acceptable to be gay in the past few years if many of these guys who previously would not have been caught dead going anywhere near a gay bar have come out and now meet guys at gay bars.

Any thoughts?

So...basically...gay guys are meeting fewer guys. and getting laid a lot less without their specialized social networking sites. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Heh

It sure seems that way. A few years ago I could log on to gay.com and find several decent dudes who wanted to hook up in less than an hour.

Where in NC are you?
