Received this yesterday & pass the Text along to members- as it is not some HOAX- given the source credentials: Trusting this doesn't result in a Second occurrence on the ' Day of Infamy ' - for the computerized generation. It appears many could be precluded from computer use- as the only advice given is "shutdown computer immediately" - presumably to allow time for email servers to clear ?? Maybe others have an update/ advice to enlighten us- Before we are nuked and out of contact PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disk C drive of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address on his/her contact list. That is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it! If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even if it is sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US kathy Rybczyk 410 Tanasi drive rossville, tn 38066 901-853-4469 I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to all your contacts ASAP- ..
It's a hoax. This email has been around before. Postcard virus ?? - Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus - Norton Community To be safe don't open emails from unknown sources and never click on a exe.
You can't get a virus by reading an email unless whatever you are using to view the email is unbelievably unsecure, to a point where it would have to be an awful beta at the very least.
Damn .. right you are- even from Norton back in 2008 Gotta triple check everything these days - Gives rise to current Apple adv. mocking Windows7, Vista ... - the misery goes on trying to keep up with MS computers, Aarghh ... LMAO- NOT MOD attn. : If you wish- just remove this Falsealarm thread
Not totally. It can still infect your PC and give you a nasty virus. According to Snopes, it's a Mixed bag. It is doubtful that it will burn your whole hard drive, but It could do some nasty damage. Especially if it's a VX2 governmental bug. The only way it could "Burn" your hard drive is accessing the same spot on the drive over and over and literally wear out the read heads or motor. Or... try to write a new corrupted firmware to the drive. Always Always Always have a good antivirus scanner and firewall on your PC, Don't open things you think are junk mail, and STOP DOWNLOADING THOSE DAMN FREE CUTSIE CURSORS, FREE WALLPAPER, AND DAMN UGLY SMILEY FACES. *steps off geek soap box*
Thanks 'mi amigo'- Flashy The email dropped on me, as I was embroiled in dealing with: http://www.lpsg.org/159880-looking-monster-cock-morphs-cartoons.html#post2475857 -Hence my likely over-reaction & thankful for vince w/ Norton ID. Now far more savvy than I- comes Rikter8, with a new spin: This in depth review/advice, points to what caught my eye - > Do not open any message with an attachment entitled .. (you normally can't ID attach. before- so seems virus has gotcha) > This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. ( In lieu of Burning maybe that's the "try to write a new corrupted firmware to the drive.") Either way Rikter8 is astute, yet the 'hoaxsters' know the hot buttons. THX gents, this confirms what I said is the real BITCH; "trying to keep up with MS computers" & its ongoing vagaries. ..
