Now I'm a self employed property manager but on the way I've worked as
    A waiter
    Banker
    Insurance clerk

Not that many different jobs really I suppose in 28 years.

At 10 years old, I wanted to be the president of General Motors and drive a Corvette.

At 16 years old, I wanted to be a foreign language professor at a university.

At 40 years old, still working on my French / Spanish degree, I decided that I wanted to be an accountant instead.

Today, at 58, I work as an accountant in private industry - mainly doing purchasing, inventory management, and accounts payable. Fortunately, I like my job, am well respected, and get to ride my bike to work every day.:biggrin1:

My old man used to shovel coal and did electric work. I thought maybe to go the same way before I realized it meant I would need to work hard. Then I thought on being a school teacher or a plumber or even a bartender and I worked as a bartender and then as a security guard for a time. They all made you work so I stopped working and I became a burden on society. I get money, food stamps, subsidized housing and reduced costs on transits and now as a senior citizen a meal for a dollar. Bill

    I wanted to be:

A Saint (I know, laugh all you want...lol)
    or
A Jockey (Then I hit puberty and grew)

Ended up working in I.T. I was in the right place at the right time and ended up well off.

But I'd still rather be a saint or a jockey!

I mostly wanted to be involved with the earth sciences, hopefully something to do with geology, or oceanography, or meteorology, or glaciology. I was fascinated by fires, floods, avalanches, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and disaster management.

Somehow I ended up in a job that satisfied many of those interests. My enthusiasm for the work has waned little despite decades in the profession. Its been a rewarding, fulfilling career and my main emphasis now is helping the younger generation get started on the right foot.

I remember the day I hit 100 lbs. I think I starved myself for days, not wanting to gain anymore. I actually seriously cried when I realized that I was going to be too big.

I wanted to be a jockey, or horse trainer. Then a little older I wanted to be in livestock somehow.

ended up in equipment maintenance and repair - Sheez, I still hate it :frown1:

When I was a kid I wanted to be a farmer like my dad, but as I got older I quickly realized I don't have the self-discipline to work long days and often without a day off for weeks at a time.

I went to graduate school about 10 years ago to become a librarian. I was offered a job in the field, but turned it down for what seemed like "greener pastures" at a big corporation, which was a HUGE mistake. Now I work as a proofreader in the legal field and at a small firm. Not overly challenging, but it pays the bills and I'm happier than I have been in years.

I wanted to fly fighters for the Air Force, but my eyesight, while not really bad, disqualified me.

Now I teach college, run a small web development company and I am a volunteer reserve police officer.

When very young I wanted to be a housewife and stay at home mother.

Then I wanted to be a fight referee, because I thought that was what my dad did.:rolleyes: He was actually the Deputy EEO officer for a large Navy Base. I heard him talking about all these fights and arguments he settled and figured he was a fight referee.

In high school because everyone kept badgering me and it wasn't cool to want to be a housewife and mom; I decided I wanted to be an interior decorator. I still have a mild interest in it. I've considered going into home staging.

As an adult I worked as a: sales associate, retail management, lifeguard, office assistant, receptionist, National Outreach Educator, Curator of Education, Education Program Development Specialist I. I am currently the caregiver/chauffer for my 81 year old dad who has Parkinson's and 79 year old mom who is in the early stages of dementia.

Oh yeah, would still give my eye teeth to be a housewife and stay at home mom.
