Wrestlers trying to make weight limits, anorexic gymnasts petite but all muscle, BMI can be abused, it is true. OTOH obesity in many nations is a scourge and will kill many. Recently read an article on discrimination against the overweight in the health professions. Often they ignore your problem and just say, lose weight, as if that will cure your asthma fx...

i just dont see why they need to make it a big deal. just start using bigger models and say nothing. Magazines promote negative images and negative images promote eating disorders, and there is nothing as hurtful as that. my ex suffered both from bulllimia and Anorexia at various stages and no doubt still does. Seeing this beautiful girl who could turn me on with a smile think she looked like shit and get so worked up over a food baby killed me. she didnt understand that a small girl (5'2) with pretty big boobs (32E) and an hour glass figure, isnt going to be a size zero. but magazines and other people said she had to be skinny. she hated that my favourite parts of her were soft.
as someone studying journalism, i really want to start a magazine with the idea of using normal women, but not making a deal of it. just make normal people appear normal in magazines. Ill get back to you when its done....

More power to you, lemon.

Those women aren't fat. But they are chunky.

And it's waaaaaay better to show chunky women than stick women. At least chunky women can bear healthy children. Anorexic pin-women don't even menstruate.

- - - - -

As commented earlier, BMI can be misleading. In women, hip-to-waist-ratio does a better job of predicting heart disease and diabetes.

- - - - - - - - - -

BUT, let's get real. Who cares if models are stick-thin anyway?

In my opinion, more women try to emulate actresses. And last time I looked, few actresses were pin-thin.

Just as an idea there is pretty much a healthy range of body types... you can be unhealthily thin and unhealthily fat. Interestingly and unsurprisingly those extreme's are both generally pretty unattractive. Those girls were on the larger end but i can assure they were certainly not unsexy ( i have seen more sexy of course but they weren't not sexy either). I think you can still be pretty sexy and probably be not technically perfectly fit or healthy but once it gets extreme your not going to get laid.

My idea would be for people to stop looking at video clips and magazines and see what is in front of them. I find real women much more interesting than any TV or computer with which i can't interact. I can look at some trimmed perfect idea of a woman on TV and just project an idea of what she might be like or I can go out and meet a real woman. I actually enjoy greatly the experience of meeting and interacting with people and I have to add women esp. I find that real women often challenge me and expand my views on the world and sometimes we have good chemistry that can also lead to a great relationship and sometimes great sex.

None of these real women has ever been able to live up to the image of a touched up front page magazine shoot - mostly because if you meet the models themselves they can't either. The ideal is just that an ideal and not a reality. The more you can actually live your life by interacting with the people around you (or in the case of this site those not around you but with similar interests) generally the happier and more grounded and stable you will be.

You forgot to say 'in my opinion.'

Personally, I'd prefer someone who is too skinny than someone who is too fat.

To me, none of the women pictured there are attractive.

I find it highly interesting that on a site that is all about promoting bigger dick being better that there'd be such sensitivity towards finding thinner women more attractive. It's not really fair to make a generalization that "all models are emaciated and unhealthy" and are promoting the wrong message towards women. If that's the case, then what kind of message does this site send to average men?

Models are considered attractive though they're obviously not the norm and pornstars have atypical body parts, which is why both are in the profession they're in. Models aren't supposed to be "normal" or "average". That's like wanting professional athletes to be "average" at their sport. Not everyone is going to like the fact that there are better looking people out there but they just need to get used to it.

Disclaimer: I am in no way saying larger girls are unattractive, in fact I like a fuller figured girl more often than not. It just seems to me that the OP and many other posters in this thread are implying "thin" = "unhealthy/bad" and "overweight" = "real woman/good". I just don't see why it can't be a personal preference like anything else.

Those girls arent that big, it does get on my tits (I havent actually got any) that the fashion industry seems to make a real big deal about including a section of normal human distribution as some kind of favour.

One must remember though, organisations dont make much money out of people who are happy, if you can sell the idea that sometihing is attainable, moreover desirable, then you'll make a fortune - these people know it. Next issue will probably figure big on "post christmas diets" or "get that beach-bikini look in spring" it's enough to make me puke.

Google BBW sites and see how many have "members sections" that'll tell you what some men are doing in the privacy of their own minds. Fashion is about ease if production and profit, once the human body away from smaller sizes it is technically a little more challenging to make the clothes fit as fat deposition is quite variable even within the same ethnic group. The industry takes the easy way out as it is more profitable. I know this I'm white 6'2" and my partner is black 5'2" and she weighs a stone more than me, might be down to her lovely big nellies...

I thought the women shown were not very heavy, and definitely were too painted up. I like them more heavy and less trussed into Barbiedoll shape. But then, I am not male am I?

lets face it. the women were kinda big. but as a society, the western world is big. i did not find one of those women particularly ugly in anyway. i could find a minmum of one good physical characteristic in each of them and i think anyone can.

To say that the magizine is wrong because it makes it seem ok to be big is a stupid statement considering the amount we do to aid being big with microwave meals, our sedementary lifestyle ( i have a feeling ive confused sedementary with something else...) etc.

i know this is the womens issues, but there is a similar trend with men now. i cant buy a pair of boxers without seeing them worn by action man (which i mean by the muscle and the abnormally spherical bulge:eek:)

I'm confused about those photos...those women are heavier than me... so why don't I see cellulite on their stomach, legs / thighs? They seem too toned, which I don't think is quite possible for big women...sorry...Why do some of them appear to have a flat tummy...

I can't help think it but its hard to take those photos at a serious level, because they can not look that good.

For women who are on this site and heavy, do you look that good like they do? Do you look toned? Have a flat tummy? I have a pretty face and a nice body but NO where near what those photos / video has...for me to get away with photos that make me look good, I'd have to spend some time on make up and select the right lighting and camera angle....

retouching was done on all of the pictures, that's why.

first of all, fuck most of you.

second of all, these women are not "big" or "fat" or "on the lower spectrum" of "fat". these women's bodies are completely average. this girl (http://www.hollywoodbackwash.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Plus-size-models-7.jpg) is probably a size fucking 10/12, most of which if you saw on the street, you wouldn't think twice about. also, these girls (http://famespy.com/wordpress/files/2010/01/vmag-guess.jpg) are in guess and seven7 jeans. if you know anything about those companies, you know that their denim does NOT run any bigger than a size 32. for those of you not aware of european denim size charts, that's also a size 12 in the US. most of you would kill to be with women in this photo if you even got the chance to be near them. none of them are above a size 16, i guarantee that.

you have to understand...they styled these women completely fucking wrong making them appear unflattering and accentuating parts of the body you would typically NOT want (at any size as a woman) attention drawn to. they did this on purpose in order to shove the look in your face. "HERE'S CURVES, and even though we're telling you it's beautiful and perfectly fine, we're going to make you feel uncomfortable about it!"

third of all, there is NOTHING wrong about wanting a thinner woman. there is EVERYTHING wrong with making a woman feel as if she is fat or bigger than average or inadequate physically or unhealthy (as so many of you have already done in this thread, quite disgustingly, but not surprisingly) when she is not above a size 12, and that is a size or two BELOW the average sized woman in the US.

fourth of all, again...FUCK most of you.

Well I knew that, but was I couldn't find the words to make my point.

Basically I am saying is that these photos and videos are not realistic of what overweight, chubby, fat, or BBWs look like. While women of all shape and size can look beautiful and attractive, those photos / video only go to remind us of our flaws.

Myself as a size 14-16 woman, or to put it bluntly, overweight or chubby... like other women, I have flaws that reminds me of the fat I have... and those photos just made me depreciate myself further. To me it feels like it's one of those things society expect women to fit into this ideal fat mold or the cookie cutter ideal of what an overweight / BBW should look like...

I'm not sure I'm making sense here.

I totally understand. I'm a size 16/18 right now, and I couldn't help going "Holy crap, I'm disgusting." when I saw them. Then I read some of the comments after the pictures, and honestly, felt like crying...

People just don't fucking get what it's like to be smacked in the face since birth that your body is not good enough from the media AND from guys YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.

I'm losing weight for me, because I am not happy with my recent weight gain, and for my body type I am not as healthy as I could be. However, this is truly the first time in my life I have ever wanted to/have lose/lost weight the right way.

I've battled binging and purging, anorexia, etc... to this day it's a battle. You never truly lose that mentality. When I was an average girl in middle school and high school I saw an obese woman in the mirror staring back. I hated myself. I hated my body, and now I look back after putting on more pounds, and go "Jesus Christ. I was perfect. I was so fucking beautiful."

People really don't get it. At all.

I think those women look great. If I saw them on the street, I would think they were hot! Hollywood has really messed things up. I live in LA and I'm in Hollywood all the time. If you think women look skinny on magazines and on tv you should see them in person. They really look ill. They do not look healthy at all. A steady diet of cocaine, and starbucks does not do wonders for the body or the face. I have seen many "stars" in person, and it is not pretty. They only really look good after hours of professional make-up artists, stylists, and photoshop wizards have altered them. It is sad that our image of beauty has become that of an ill, starved person. Those "curvy" women look like real women. Women should not look like walking sticks or clothes hangers. On the other hand, obesity is not attractive either, but a woman who has curves is natural. If you think your butt looks too big, it probably doesn't. Just my two cents.

I'm only going to say this because I'm crabby & having my period... so I don't give a crap about starting a fight... but I'm sick & tired of people bitching about appearance in general... but I'm equally tired of people justifying themselves with shitty magazine articles & quack fucks like Dr. Phil (BTW he had his license revoked years ago for malpractice)... Dr. OZ & The Doctors also fall into the category of bullshitville...

this bullshit in these magazines does not excuse you from taking care of your health first... just because America has made it okay & sexy to be this way... that is fucking delusional... and I'm talking about more then this big & beautiful stuff... I'm talking about 13 yrs old models with eating disorders... tanning till you're another race... boob jobs... lasering your asshole shut... and many other surgical body modifications... you should do things for yourself... not because of some social standard... that's not loving your self... that's being a brainless bovine and moving along with the herd... I would know... I live in southern California... fucked capital of the world...

but I will also say this and you're all going to really get pissed over this one...

I am in the medical field & working on specializing in cardiology... I am SICK & TIRED of fat, obese, chunky, or "average" women/men making up excuses on why their blood looks like a McDonald's Strawberry Flurry when I draw it... YOU HAVE BAD DIETS & ZERO RESPONSIBILITY for your own health... most patients would rather die then give up their bad habits... which I think is fucked up... you're selfish ass would rather die eating the amazing new Taco Bell drive thru diet then see your children grow up... well bottom of the transplant list for you... and most doctors will not preform bypasses on patients who do not show any sign of serious life style change... it is a life time commitment... and this is YOUR HEART we are talking about... its not like you lose a finger & move on... you neglect this & you're dead...

I know there this fairy tale going around that obesity is now all genetic (*coughs* ironically only in America *coughs*)... which makes being a ignorant dumb ass okay... no... no it doesn't... a small number of the population has this gene... you will see it in the family history... but this has given people the excuse not to watch their diets & exercise more (along with miracle cures such as the Lap Band)... OH but I don't have time... I'm too busy watching Law & Order after work... ONE... ONE HOUR a day... is all you need... most gyms have tvs in front of all the equipment... will it kill you to take 1 hr 5 days a week to walk on a god damn tread mill... no... no it won't... would it also kill you to make better eating choices... no... no it won't... being ignorant & stubborn will get you diabetes & heart disease... especially in women... this is very important when coming up on menopause...

also poor self image is a huge part of depression... and depression runs in cycles... and depression leads to eating disorders & extremely poor metabolism... which leads to being tired & excessive napping... which also puts stress on you heart from all the negative chemicals... exercising does help produce endorphins... which leads to feeling more alert during the day & better sleep patterns... which in turn increases metabolism...

also taking a good woman's supplement doesn't hurt... especially if you're pregnant or getting ready for a planned pregnancy... cravings are a result of poor nutrition... supplements & controlled diet during pregnancy produce the most desired birth weight & neuro function... the mother should not become over weight during pregnancy... this is extremely dangerous... most modern pregnancy cravings/over eating are actually psychological because of a social myth.... but look at studies of unknown pregnancies... these women had zero signs... and even look at tribe & native peoples... those women are never over weight & shoot babies out like a cannon & keep working...

we have become to soft on ourselves & over sensitive... its time to look in mirror & ask... what would really make ME happy? should I try to loose some weight or maybe gain lean muscle weight? should I go back to school? should I take more quite time? what would I like to do to improve my standard of living? how important are my loved ones over general bullshit? those are more important then I wonder what the hollywood cock suck magazine has to say about social standards & how should I live up to them?

PS also drinking a gallon of red wine a night is not the fountain of youth... I want to slap the dumb bastard who started that bullshit...

We're going through this argument in Australia where, somehow, a fat woman is now supposed to be attractive and a slimmer woman is an abberation. First up, I find overweight men and women always unattractive. Second is that overweight seems to be more of an Anglo problem, and with much recent international travel I did not view many overweight men or women in any countries other than the UK, the USA and my own country of Australia. French women eat and eat, and stay slim. Ditto Spanish, Dutch and the other European countries I saw. And, of course, we all know about the women I saw when I was in Vietnam and China.

BMI for it's flaws is a good benchmark of weight: and even 10% over the BMI range puts a person at significantly greater risk of heart disease and diabetes. As a type 1 diabetic myself, I wouldn't wish diabetes on my worst enemy.

I have known some lovely women in my recent past, all of them in good shape, and all of them worked for their figures. They exercised, they watched what they ate, they took care of themselves. They looked fantastic. Size 14, I'm afraid, just reflects eating too much of the wrong food, and being lazy and sedentary. If being size 14 makes a woman feel insecure or depressed, it's probably because, deep down, she knows this. She knows she's not attractive, and she knows if she made an effort she would be a size 10, regardless of how she's built.

I am married, and my wife watches what she eats and she exercises regularly, and she is in good shape. My 18 year old daughter takes after me, which means she can eat as much as she wishes and not put on weight, which is from my non-Anglo heritage. My past mistress was gorgeous: tall (170cm), size 10, curvy, worked out at the gym three or four times a week, careful with her diet. I think of her when I see younger overweight women.

Exercise is the key more than eating, although both fit together. To keep fit and to manage my diabetes, I swim two or three times a week. How many size 14 women on this site would jump in the pool and swim 2,000 or 3,000 metres every couple of days? I can tell anyone if they do this, they will get very, very fit, and not have too many problems with weight either.

I find fat unattractive. First, because it puts people at risk of serious health consequences, and working in healthcare I see these overweight people after time has passed and the weight has taken it's toll. I am astounded at the number of gtts we run, to confirm type 2 diabetes. Dozens each week, men more than women. Second, I find fat unattractive because all it takes is effort with diet and exercise to get into shape again, and stay in shape too.

I wrote and had published a novel set in the 1920's. To get the scene right I went to the National Library and studied hundreds of photos of the time. What astounded me was that there were no fat people. I saw individuals, couples, groups, crowds of people like us, only three generations ago, and no (hardly any) fat people. They were mobile, they walked to the train to get to work, they walked to shop, they walked a lot. They didn't vegetate in front of the TV, drive the car to the carpark 10 metres from the office, they were mobile seven days a week just to survive. I think we can all learn a lesson from that.
