The member's color or other personal characteristics are irrelevant to the discussion. Personal attacks are against the rules.

When a person himself raises the issue of race and uses it as a sword in an argument, it hardly seems irrelevant to comment on that.

Nor does it seem to have been anything like a personal attack, unless you count disbelieving his claimed race as a personal attack.

Again, he discussed his race in a different thread. You are the one who brought his race into this discussion. And yes, it is a personal attack. What does his race have to do with his opinion of Newt Gingrich?

Actually I didn't.

As far as 'attacks' I think this one was the first in this thread:

I didn't say you did. That remark was directly below the quote by SilverTrain. So that means I was responding to him.

Hermetically sealed threads? Really?

And I really have to take issue with the mentioning of someone's race being considered a personal attack. To do so is to significantly oversteer, and this to move away from any legitimate issue (especially in light of the posting history which is there for all to see).

It's not my forum , nor my "rules" so I'll shut up and leave this thread.

There is a huge difference between "the mentioning of someone's race" and accusing them of lying about it based on their politically opinions. Talk about stereotyping African-Americans..

It is a tool used to disarm and circumvent the rules. And its been regrettably very successful.

newt's been offered $1 million (from a conservative talk show host) to drop out....

Talk-show host offers Newt Gingrich $1 million to drop out | Reuters

Savage, no doubt, is also aware of polls that indicate the same degree of anti-Newt angst as there was in the past, and that his nomination might spur "independents", otherwise waffling on whom to cast their vote for, to end up voting "anyone but Newt".

The Republican's undoing may be in their insistence that their nominee be "conservative enough". For many, conservative is also a "four letter word".

I was wondering when someone would finally bring that up. Romney made a good deal of money off his activities as a vulture capitalist. Of course it's a debatable question as to who is worse, Newt with his snout in the public trough or Mitt laying off American workers.

It's going to entertaining to watch these horrible people tear each other apart over the next six months. It just beginning to get dirty folks.

Okay, yes, politics are entertaining, but this current batch of Republicans are digusting. They're hideous!!!! I've never been inspired by a Republican, but still they're supposed to be leaders..... IMO Newt is only in the race for the money. A person can make some serious money running for office. In this month's Vanity Fair an informal survey showed a huge percentage of Republicans would vote for Bush again... I don't know maybe it's time for the Republicans to trot out George and Dick again...

..............WTF!! Pray God the Democrats could muster THAT kind of Party loyalty!! Goes to show you that the Republicans seem to long for the glorious past of Bush over against future possibilities. Maybe Jeb will resurrect the dynasty from the ashes!

It seems that one of Newt's brilliant ideas is to subpoena federal judges to appear before Congress, to impeach them, and even to abolish federal district courts that deliver verdicts that are "radically un-American," such as ruling it unconstitutional to have children in public schools pledge allegiance to "one nation, under God."

Gingrich: Abolish 'Anti-American' Ninth Circuit Judges | Video Cafe

The audience cheers when Newt asserts that federal courts have become "arrogant in their misreading of the American people." Funny, I thought that it was the business of our courts to interpret the law of the land, not to interpret its people.

(Edited to add: The cited article does not say much about Newt's proposal to abolish the Ninth Circuit Court: for that, see this.)

Well, if you think THAT'S scary (see Calboner's post above)

Continuing his crusade against the courts, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich railed against judges “imposing secularism” on the country on this morning’s Face The Nation. Arguing that “activist judges” who make disagreeable decisions should be held accountable before Congress, he told Bob Schieffer that he would send a U.S. Marshal or Capitol Police officer to arrest judges if that’s what it took to reign them in, and then encourage. impeachment.

Now, I'm living in Barcelona far away from the "States" and just finished watching today's Face The Nation via satellite. It's late. I'm tired. I'm also afraid that Newt will actually become the USA's next loose cannon Fürer du jour.*

*Sorry, is that too much toy German and toy French for the average LPSGer?
