As for Schiller's resignation, he did what he had to as a representative of a publicly funded institution to distance NPR from his personal observations... not that any of what he said (that the Tea Party consists of racist elements) was untrue. Fact is, it does and has openly courted bigoted and racist ideology.

He was dead spot on.
And his personal views are in any case irrelevant. The only relevant question is whether NPR is reasonably neutral in its programming. And it obviously is.
As I'm sure you agree.

Sometimes it actually pays to review previous posts in a thread before opening your mouth to prevent further embarrassments. But I'll be generous here and give you a link where I sourced two studies that accused NPR of having both a Liberal and Conservative bias. - http://www.lpsg.org/236917-npr-unbiased.html#post3353771

But by all means, if you think your intentionally misspelled words and lack of using proper punctuation means more to this discussion than research conducted at UCLA & the University of Missouri then please kindly explain yourself. However do keep in mind that the general consensus on LPSG, especially in the Politics section, tend not to be kind to acts of deliberate idiocy.
Regret making this post, in future will be more extensive in my research
before posting, ok.

I know I'll get "rants and raves" for this post... but can anyone actually believe that NPR was or is unbiased in their reporting and thereby deserve federal funding?

I don't believe that any news source is unbiased, or if that is even possible. NPR receives 1.5% of it's funding from the CPB, and the goal or terms of that is not to be unbiased.

Of course, given your other posts, you're probably asking if people in the thread thought that NPR was leftist or not. That's laughable. It's centrist at best....I'd bet you've never really listened to it.

It's the most boring vanilla news imaginable.

somehow I knew Vinylboy would chime in. Government support for biased media is called "Propaganda" dude.!!!

Almost all news in the US performs a propaganda function at some level. The NY Times famously did the bidding of the Bush administration, and Fox is run by a former GOP propaganda man.

Fox is a commercial entity midlifebear, if people don't want to listen to it they don't have to. Making all of us pay for socialist shit through taxes is NOT freedom of the airwaves.

What socialist shit? Have you ever listened to NPR? What the fuck?

I think NPR is pretty damn great but of course there's always going to be some 'editorial direction' - the BBC is exactly the same - but there's space philosophically and culturally within the organisation to provide and broadcast counter arguments - what could be healthier than that?

NPR is so neutral it ought to banned from car radios. Every time I drive in the USA and turn it on, it puts me to sleep. It has a certain "voice" that I can only take so much of. CBC is similar, but not as bad.

Not to mention these idiots haven't heard about the sting or maybe they have and just choose to ignore it which is worse. Oh yeah then there was the Juan Williams debacle. Unbiased please....., just as long as it suits their agaenda.

Juan Williams, long before he got his low-paying job with NPR was well known for being a self-righteous conservative asshole. He's doing much better now that FOX is throwing about $3 million his way every year as a "pundit." And NPR has been a better organization for canning his ass.
