Whatever happened to I'll show you mine if you show me yours? I think that if people go to a nude beach then there should be a requirement for nudity and not just gawking at others

There are acouple of benefits of clothing optional:

It allows shy people to go to the beach to try nudity in a non-mandatory, casual manner.

It allows me to take my family to the beach - I will be nude without hesitation, but not even the slightest interest from them!

i AGREE 100%

Definitely the everyone being naked at my first nudist event was part of what made it so natural.

No gawkers!!

Nude mandatory would help keep some of the perverts off the beach..

Though I don't think it'd bother me one way or another, I'm in agreement with the above. Most social naturists/nudists are more comfortable among like individuals.

Now if one goes to a clothes optional designated venue, then one can expect that some will be in swimwear and some will not. Nude beaches I think are different.

Besides, most are at the far end of the more accessible beaches, usually requiring a long walk through designated textile areas.

Wtf would anyone go all that way and through all that trouble just to be clothed among nude people is beyond me.

I agree, nude beaches should be for nude people - and if you are a bit shy you can find your own spot away from everyone else, lie on your front and get used to it. But there's no place for swimwear. If you are new and a bit shy naked, then the last thing you want is to see someone else who is clothed.

I went to Haulover Beach in Miami recently and there were more clothed people than ever on the nude beach. I think it is OK if one of the individuals in the group is nude and the rest in swimwear because that is more about hanging out together, but not cool if a single person is there on the beach in trunks. That gives the impression that they are there for the show and not the enjoyment of being nude on the beach. If someone wants to test the water, they can lay out at the edge of the nude section and get comfortable with nude people nearby.

Interested in seeing what others think.

If it is a nude beach folks should be nude!! There are plenty of beaches for those who want to wear swimwear. Surely it is not to much to ask for the few nude beaches to be respected.

I go with clothing optional. I've been to a few and generally go first with trunks or something like that. If I get comfortable, I will take those off. For those that are uncomfortable it still allows them to experience the beach to see if they eventually feel comfortable enough to take their own off. There are plenty of "gawkers" with their clothes off that simply are there to gawk. I like getting naked on a beach on my own terms and to have a nudity forced on me would force me to look elsewhere. Don't be so full of yourselves that ones with trunks on or whatever are there to gawk. Some are, some aren't, etc. Welcome to the real world.

have to agree... several years ago went to a nude campground- I went down the (well know) 'sex area' (aka the trails). A guy and I went at his (me fucking his brains out on a bench- lot of fun). A group (naked) gathered....jacking off, playing around, really added to the mood, sweat, smells, etc. Then one guy walks up, in shorts, reaches into his shorts, playing with himself. It was like rap music at a classical conscert. I stopped mid-fuck and said 'do you mind?"...nothing...several times, mood dying he said 'someone might walk up'- I explained this was a privately owned gay camp ground, private property, etc..etc. Either you leave or we move.

"If you wan to watch, go rent a fuck movie at home- you join in or leave"...sheesh.

he finally (finally!) left and we continued...major buzz kill...naked in a naked place (esp a private, for pay nude area... a 'public beach' there is some leeway) but....

I couldn't agree more. The only nude beach around here (Hanlan's Point in Toronto) is filling up with obnoxious hipsters who are too cool for the mainland beaches in the city (admittedly, Hanlan's Point has the best beaches around), but who don't have the balls to drop their pants. Then they complain about the people who do.

Personally, I think they're just riddled with self-loathing and have to make fun of people who they perceive aren't.

Sitting on the fence with this one-My local nude beach is fairly remote, and we also have a local who's on a campaign to get nudists off the beach, which has meant that casual users are few and far between these days. While I agree the gawkers are infuriating, for me clothing optional at my local beach is a good thing, last weekend a family were down there, Dad was nude Mum and the kids weren't- this sort of thing needs to be encouraged, I also agree xenon it also helps the shy to gradually move towards nudity.
Having said that, the other beach I sometimes go to is in the city, and when the number of clothed/dog walkers/sunday strollers outnumbers the nudists 2:1 it does get annoying. Obviously I'm not shy about being naked in front of others but I don't want to someone's free entertainment.
