    Interesting article !

I think that most of the problems surrounding AIDS and HIV are not statistics, but the openness of some African governments. Many still think that not speaking about HIV and AIDS will make it go away. Furthermore semi-automated ELISA tests costs around $6 dollars per person and require a person to be monitored 3 months after the last possible infectious contact. It is great to hear that the overall world figure has been corrected for this year, and that educational programs on condom use in India and China are having effect.

The only real "news" is the U.N. admitting it. I guess they should be commended for finally acknowledging it.

I did a report on AIDS once, was very interesting

I don't think this in anyway retracts from the importance of stopping AIDS at all, which is what I thought this thread might have been about

From a strictly personal perspective, as someone who has lived with HIV longer than many posters here have even been alive, I have to wonder what this will mean for funding efforts?

As for prevention efforts, I can't say that it surprises me that China and India are finding effective ways of getting a very simple message out there. It's a shame that such success isn't universal.

AIDS activists have already voiced concerns about funding, but with the number of infected still being over 30 million, I don't see that causing a great deal of downward pressure.
