Damn you can't edit titles! lol

Shouldn't police have more important things to do with their time than busting harmless male prostitutes at porn shops. What is NYC becoming? Puritan land?

Prostitution may be immoral, but it should never be illegal. What you do for money with your body with a consensual adult IS YOUR BUSINESS!

GAYUSA has been reporting about this for several weeks. Ann Northrup and Andy Humm are the anchors on this hour long cable show. Broadcast on Thursday nights on channel 34 nyc/westside. They also have their broadcast over the radio. Not sure what the call letters are. But for more info on this and other important gay topics go to GAYUSA. Now that is news worth watching. Frightening how much bigotry and prejudice there still is in this world.

What a pathetic job for a person: trying to bust hookers in the action

Still policing the bedroom in 2009.

Cops must be bored STIFF (pardon the pun):biggrin1:

My take on the story and the reason they mentioned that the guys were over was was supporting the false arrest claim as FEW male prostitutes are over 40.

I know, right? The economy's bad, but this is no time for a career change.

What about the public health angle?

??? Why is anyone going into porn shops when the Internet has it for free?

LOL...one of the free alt weekly papers around here had a story that said just that!! They said that between the recession & the 'net, the 'blue' bookstores in Chicagoland were closing up shop at an unprecedented rate.

As far as the public health angle, yea I sort of agree with you on that one. But it is a slippery slope argument that opens the door to allot of questionable & ideologically driven jurisprudence.

Based on that small snippet from 'metro', it seems to be a clear cut case of entrapment . The only thing the interviewee is guilty of is really piss poor judgement.

Although I'm a happy expat, I'm also a solid tax-paying citizen of The Silver State. Along corridor I-80 you will discover that almost all the little towns have brothels. Most recently, one of the brothels in Elko has begun to offer same-sex services (although the house gets a 40% cut). The counties along I-80 are as red as the State of Ewetaw, but the citizens realize the benefits of legalized prostitution. The State laws do not address the idea that prostitution is "immoral" or "bad." It leaves the God police out of it altogether. The State is primarily concerned with controlling crime and getting a handle on the pervasive health issues of STDs. And they do a pretty damn good job of it. In little old Wells, Nevada (population about 900 in the middle of the winter) even the mormon city councilmen and women realize that without legalized brothels (there are only two) there would be no medical care for anyone except 50 miles away in Elko. So, everyone -- especially seniors who need cheap doc visits for medication refills -- benefits -- as does the City tax base.

However, you'll find the police in Reno and Sparks are just as rednecked as most uneducated males and more than happy to bust gays for public lewdness (kissing one another in a gay bar or holding hands). But it doesn't happen that often.

The idea that prostitution should be illegal and johns be caught in police stings is like rolling back to pre-StoneWall days when the police regularly busted gay bars -- especially those gay bars that catered to drag queens and put on drag shows. This police hate behavior needs to be constantly challenged. However, carrying a hand gun I believe is illegal in New York City. I welcome correction on this. Still, we shouldn't have to carry around guns to protect ourselves.

Just as mormons poured millions of dollars against Proposition 8 in California during the last National Election, gay men and women should be sending $10 and $25 checks to non-profit legal defense funds to help these "trapped" victims pay for legal fees and fight for their rights.

What's next? Are they going to go door to door in Cherry Grove to ferret out the gay residents and put them in concentration camps? "Oh, no! We can't have real, live homosexuals running loose on the streets of our newly Disneyfied Manhattan!" Yet another reason to book direct flights from Spain and South America to Las Vegas or LAX when I need to get back to the "ranch." Stuff like the article in the original post just pisses me off.

Now ask me how I really feel about it.

Basically this is the latest attempt by NYC to close down sex shops. By showing an increase in prostitution arrests on premise they can make a claim to close down these establishments.
In addition, this is not an attempt by the city to slow the spread of STD. If the city were that concerned they would not have a Helath Dept. that is bare bone minimum provide hardly even the most basic of services.

I guess someone is picking up where Guiliani left off. Still it's probably pretty frightening to be falsely arrested and very troublesome afterward. There's probably alot more illicit stuff happening in bars (and later at home) than in those stores.
