ad into this the fact that 47.39% of households make less than 25k a year and the reasoning behind not taxing the working poor (with families) becomes evident.

Here Is Your Problem!©: Economic Illiteracy.

The US Census Bureau (which is not owned by oh-so-evil Fox News) begs to differ:

For 2009, the latest year available, the median US household income was:

USD 49,777.

...or almost twice the number you reported.

But yes, indeed, we're all poor compared to the Sultan of Brunei. Why don't we let him pay the whole world's taxes.
No need to get your panties in a twist here. itsthepopei said "households" when he should said "individuals". A semantic mistake. I make mistakes too. But it doesn't detract from his point about the pointlessness of taxing poor people.

Household incomes are much higher because 42% of US households have two or more income earners.

According to the US census bureau 47.39% of American individuals over the age of 25 earn less than 25K per year. 75.40% of them earn less than 50k. 25k a year is what? About 12 dollars an hour? = dirt poor in the USA.

I am so delighted that you may have received credit for your introductory course on statistics from your friendly local community college.

I reported exactly what the US Census Bureau reported: the median US household income.

The average is indeed higher.

I am sorry that you're not entitled to your own facts.

Have you always been so superbly consistent at portraying yourself as an asshole or are you still practicing and I just haven't seen examples of your failures?

It's impressive that you remember to attempt to indict my academic record every time you insult me. So, is that planned or do you lack the ability to mix it up a little?

Seriously... why do you always make a personal attack? Do I intimidate you? Do you have an overwhelming sense of insecurity? What is behind all of your attitude?

I dont get the obsession with taxing the working poor. Could someone justify in plain text how that would be moral. Id take a 3% tax hike and think nothing of it.

Do it then. There is nothing stopping you from taking a 20% hike if you want too.

Any person - especially the wealthy ones - who claim we need higher taxes and aren't making it happen themselves are truly pathetic. These people could lead by example and bypass all the legislative issues that would go with the creation of higher taxes, but they don't. It's just all for publicity.

I'm glad you caught that hahaha.

Pretty much everyone was wrong because they were all arguing over the semantics of two completely different statistics.

My only thought: how can anyone reasonably argue that we should increase tax rates on any bracket, much less the wealthiest, when roughly half of the LEGAL population does not pay even a cent in federal taxes????? I am a technically unemployed college student that pays taxes. The fact that I pay more than almost half our country without being gainfully employed infuriates me.

You are always welcome to return to your original country of birth and make a success of your life there. In fact, I encourage you to do so, since you're so upset and "disgusted" with illegal immigrants coming to the USA who I can assure you are grateful grateful to find low-payng work as farm laborers, domestics, and sell bags of oranges along the on/off ramps and medians of freeways in Los Angeles.

I worked and paid my way through more than eight years of undergraduate and graduate school. What makes you so special that you're "technically unemployed" but still have to pay taxes?

Get off your ass and get a job.
