Like always, Paul supporters fail to differentiate between bad foreign policy (Iraq) and good foreign policy. Being in Germany and Japan is a symptom of an overblown defense budget and being spread out in wars. BUT, we did rebuild Europe, and unlike the Soviets, enabled Germany to regain dignity in Europe.
We're in Libya because we have the support of much of the world. It was a situation in which we could help, and we saved the lives of an entire half of a country. In the end, Qaddafi is losing, or lost, power, and the Arab Spring keeps the momentum alive. Syrians can take note. Egypt and Tunisia can keep their efforts going (and the idea that Egypt didn't have any help is a gross simplification - if this happened under Bush, lord knows what we would have done. Just look at how Fox News reacted to Obama's call for Mubarak to step down).
I agree we should promote peace, but sometimes enforcing a no-fly zone is the best way to do that. Libya promoted peace. And you and Paul once again oversimplify the fact that Iraqis and Iranians are united in their hatred against us. Iraq and Iran are both very complex nations, one of which we destroyed because of bad foreign policy, and the other we have no idea how they feel because the people are suppressed.
The biggest problem facing us and the world is that we based our foreign policy for years over fear of some stupid domino effect. That's why we supported all these horrible dictators. Now, when there's an opportunity to help people fighting for freedom and a more peaceful world, we should help if we can.
