this is more imaginary drivel from the right wing, as it worries that Americans now see that speculators drive up the price of oil. the fact that it fell to $97. 64 a barrel today(2-1-12) is more evidence that the scary story about Iran blocking the straits of Hormuz was another effort by the capitalist speculators to drive up the price and make a financial killing on Iranian bluff and bluster. our military and our commander in chief , Barack Obama are making sure that doesnt happen. GOP , go cry in your koolaid.

mmmm I'll take an 86 Grand National. Or a 84 Olds 442 anyday.

For eco scooter, I'll take another Dodge Duster Turbo, or a Shadow turbo.
Heck...even a Datsun!

POO on New Cars! (2003 up)

I thought the 2.2/2.5 Turbo's were no longer offered by the time Plymouth put the Duster name on the Sundance?

Wouldn't mind another one of the 4dr hatchback Lebaron's with that motor though, especially an '85 (it doesn't have that ugly ass third brakelight mounted directly to the glass:wink: )

Any rise in consumer prices due to government policy is a tax. Inflation is a tax. However, these regulations were set under Bush...

but Obama does have a philosophical belief that America needs higher gas prices. This is why he wouldn't allow the Keystone pipeline. He believes that higher gas prices will lead to 2 things:
1. innovation in green energy
2. less gas consumption

Whether you agree with him or not, at least know where he stands on gas prices

Obama didn't allow the Keystone Pipeline because the plan was incomplete (there were large gaps in routing that hadn't been decided on) and the Republicans tried to force him to approve a plan that wasn't complete by putting a 60 day due date on it.

The entire thing was a political charade the Republicans cooked up so they'd have something to point to Obama as "being against jobs and against low oil prices" when neither is true.

Obama said he wouldn't approve an incomplete plan and there was no way the plan was going to be complete in 60 days, so you can see quite clearly what the Republicans were up to.

Add to all of this that Orange You Speaker Boehner has significant investments in 7 companies that would be doing the work on Keystone XL, and the conflict of interest on the Republican side is complete.

That said, the federal gas tax SHOULD increase because the tax collected no longer covers the cost of maintaining and building the highways. Only 43% of the transportation budget is covered by the gas tax anymore, the rest come from the general fund.

The fairest way to pay for the roads is to tax those who use them.

Before anyone brings up that some of the gas tax is used to pay for public transportation, sometimes the best way to maintain a road or reduce the need for its increased capacity is to keep people off of it in the first place. One commuter bus can take 40 cars off the road during rush hour. Imagine how much nicer your commute would be if there were 1,000 more commuter buses running around your city.

If people hate President Obama, they will have an opportunity to vote against him. Why do you feel it is appropriate to invent lies about him? You are still lying.

Thank YOU! You kept me from having to write this. The rest is pure politics.

My car is paid for along with all my other vehicals. Don't plan on trading anytime soon but keeping it for 40 years. Hello Cuba.

Green energy is not at a point to be a feasible solution. Maybe in another 10 - 20 years. I work in the electrical industry and when you look at payback for a green system it typically is 10 - 15 years. An investor / developer requires a maxmum of a 5 year payback.

As far as taxing people that use the roads I wouldn't be against that as long as I don't have to subsidize the buses that others choose to use. A fair solution would be to place a tax on the commuters that use the buses. I am an outside saleman and buses are not a solution for me.

What's totally screwed up is the fact that its the "Canada" Free Press, yet the site is entirely devoted to the American Right Wing with very little Canadian Ring Wing coverage. I think it's pretty messed that these "Canadians" are devoting so much time and resources to anti-Obama/Democrat propaganda when they're not even American. But living in Canada I can tell you there are a very small group of extreme-right wingers who's wet dream it is to implement all of the Tea Party/Extreme American Right policies in Canada.

On the gas tax discussion, I think I heard recently that the US now gets more crude from Canada then the Middle East, yet our fuel prices are 20-30% higher. Is it possible that fuel prices in the US are subsidized?

Also, Germany has some of the highest fuel prices in the West and its economy is booming which means that having unsubsidized (and therefore higher fuel prices) doesn't necessarily mean that it will have a negative impact to the economy.

I have been looking and looking and have still not found where Americans are entitled to cheap gasoline forever. If anyone knows where this information can be obtained let me know.

American's love capitalism so much they can't fathom it has a dark side. Now that the wheelers and dealers on Wall Street are working against them and driving the price of oil up they blame government (of course) not capitalism or themselves for buying two ton V-8 trucks to drive to work or the shopping center.

why do Liberals Like High Gas Prices?

Its funny how conservatives love the free market until it bites them in the ass. The price of gas is held artificially low in america. In reality gas should be 6-8 dollars to the gallon however the massive subsidization and price leveraging done by our government keep it at 1/2 that. So whenever you go to the pump you are enjoying the joys of socialism.

You really ought to spend a few weeks trying to breathe in the industrialized parts of China if you want to see how wonderful the US would be without the EPA.

Or better yet... trying to see further than 300 yards down the street.
Linfen-China-Pollution.jpg

I am old enough to remember when smog in the US was pretty dreadful.
Old enough to remember when a River back east CAUGHT FIRE from industrial pollution.

You enjoy all the benefits of the protections the EPA safeguards your air and water with... and then castigate them like they are a bad thing.

Try educating yourself.

Without the EPA... this country would be no better a place to live than China is today.

Complete Bullshit! I wish it were true though, cause as unpopular as it would be we have needed this for a long time now. WE SCREAM at the top of our lungs about the Debt BUSH & co created yet we don't care as Americans, just enough, to contribute a fukin red cent to paying it off.

TAXES ARE AT A HISTORIC 50 YR LOW, anyone else that tells you differently, is either a complete moron or a LIAR!
Our poor country is absolutely starved for revenue and the seniors and impoverished feel it more than anyone.
