President Obama has given the Queen an Ipod during their private meeting at Buckingham Palace. It contains footage of her state visit to the US in May 2007. The Queen has given the president a silver framed photograph of herself and her husband. The official picture is what she gives all visiting dignitaries.

BBC News

I wonder if he got it engraved....

please tell me this is an april fools day joke...

giving the queen an IPOD?

i am not big on royalty and the protocols of it, but you certainly don't give a monarch an ipod.

christ, prince william or henry or harry prolly got her one of those 5 years ago as a "welcome to the new age, gran" gifts, full of classical music and opera and whatever shit she listens to.

this guy gets more baffling everyday...

you don't have to be extravagant...how about a first edition book of a well known novel or something with class?

an ipod?

He'll prolly give Sarkozy a one year subscription to ESPN the Magazine, but keep the free basketball phone for himself and not tell Sark about it.

I think Lizzie got the better end of the deal actually:

The Queen, meanwhile, gave the president "a silver framed photo of herself and her husband, as she does all visiting dignitaries," according to Time.

You are right in one instance, she already does have an Ipod. I myself have 3 though. I have an Ipod shuffle, Ipod nano and an Iphone.

What do you give a queen, its like giving something to someone that may have everything. Personally I would have brought her a box of krispy kream doughnuts and called it a day

I think its an awesome gift, she has previously said how she admired the device and thought it was a great invention. She owns every imaginable token gift (twice, probably) so to her it is most likely very unique! Obama is a very 21st century president, so his gift only follows on suit.

I also promise that it's not an April fools!

Update: Along with the iPod the Obama's also gave her a rare songbook signed by Richard Rodgers (of Rodgers and Hammerstein).

She'll have to get William or Harry to download all her music on it, though, like all grandmothers do.

She has a qualification in car mechanics. She is very techno-savy. Probably she showed her grandchildren how to use their ipods. She is an exceptionally proficient horse-rider. She hunts, shoots, herself follows up on animals that have been wounded rather than killed outright (ie she kills them). And she is the one person on this globe who will have the experience and confidence to say something meaningful to Obama - as she has to every British PM for half a century. None of it is ever reported in the media because it is all behind closed doors.

On another topic whatever possessed Obama's team to select a gift that was or which included an ipod? She would have appreciated a crate of quality US wine.

I trust Obama will display her photo in the White House. As the world's senior monarch a photograph is of course the most appropriate gift, to be diplayed by all junior monarchies as well as by those nations living without the benefit of a monarch.

Everything I've read about her indicates she's a lot sharper and more knowledgeable than everyone gives her credit for being.

I hope she lives longer than her Mum did.

I do, too ... but I think there's scant reason to think she will.
Sure, she's in great shape for a lady who'll be 83 in three weeks.
But at that age, the Queen Mother was still almost girlish ... and seemed physically a decade younger than her daughter does today.
I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt Elizabeth will live another 18 years.
