The great one has now stated we will not use our nuclear arsenal against attacks on this country (withe the possible exception being a nuclear attack on us)

So bring on your attacks, biological weapons and any other hell you can think of. You have no threat of being destroyed as we have decided to castrate ourselves.

Is it November yet? It really can't come fast enough.

    Nice distortion, sonny.
Here's some of the details you left out - The only major changes that have been made is that we will not use nuclear weapons on other countries that do not have nuclear arsenals themselves. It also states that we won't be the first ones to deploy them. That makes sense, considering if someone was dumb enough to attack our country with a nuclear weapon it would prompt immediate retaliation and result in a no-win situation where our planet is completely leveled. This way, we at least look rational when it comes to potential international conflict and not just a bunch of shrapnel hicks with perpetual hard-ons for napalm.

But all common sense aside, I guess if some wannabe terrorist in Bumfuckadia decided to send you a letter that's suspected to be infected with Swine Flu, you would consider that an epic threat to society and want to nuke the third world country to smithereens, right? If you're so chicken shitted that you need to metaphorically masturbate a nuclear missile in order to feel like you have a pair, then put your head back underneath the covers and let the grown ups deal with the boogeyman.

Next subject please... and try turning off the TV once in a while.

    This does not make sense.

Why advertise what we would or would not do....

Even if we wouldn't use them in several cases - WHY WOULD YOU TELL THEM THAT!!!!

Ambiguity is a good thing sometimes!

When you make a thread like this with an UNsupported statement it makes you look foolish. Next time try and LINK to something where your premise came from and then give your commentary on it.

President Obama's statement on the use of Nuclear weapons is far more nuanced than what you stated and takes place at a time where Nuclear proliferation agreemenets are being negotiated with russia:
The policy forswears the use of nuclear weapons in deterring chemical and biological attacks, while retaining the option against states such as Iran and North Korea that do not comply with the nuclear non-proliferation treaty or associated agreements.“If a non-nuclear weapons state is in compliance with the non-proliferation treaty and its obligations, the US pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against it,” said Robert Gates, secretary of defence. Any chemical or biological attack against the US or its allies “would face the prospect of a devastating conventional military response”.
Mr Gates said the document – the first such US doctrine to be wholly unclassified – removed ambiguity about the US nuclear posture. Nevertheless, the review says that deterring nuclear attack is the “fundamental role of US nuclear weapons”, less definitive language than had been championed by some arms control supporters, who had wanted deterrence to be the exclusive purpose of the US arsenal.
Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, added: “We are recalibrating our priorities to prevent nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism, and we are reducing the role and number of weapons in our arsenal while maintaining a safe, secure, and effective deterrent to protect our nation, allies and partners.”
Arguing that the US’s “massive nuclear arsenal . . . is poorly suited to address the challenges posed by suicidal terrorists and unfriendly regimes seeking nuclear weapons”, the review rules out another generation of US nuclear warheads.
The review comes at a crucial time for Barack Obama – ahead of the signing on Thursday of the president’s recently concluded treaty with Russia on strategic weapons, a summit of more than 40 leaders next week on nuclear safety, and a conference next month on the non-proliferation treaty.

What makes you think that this strategy would be our ONLY one? You honestly think our military and government has only one plan of attack? One script of execution for combat? Seriously, how dense are you? Just because you can't chew gum and breathe at the same time doesn't mean that everyone else has the same problem.

This is nothing more than an attempt by our government to look more diplomatic and reasonable to our allies and other countries that may have grievances with us. You have a problem trying to make peace with people? If so, STEP ASIDE and let the grown ups take care of the boogeyman.

The BBC had a nice page about this news. Just fyi... It doesn't seem to be alarming anyone but conntom.

All the superheroes at Image Comics and Antarctic Press believe in Obama. He gets to kill zombies a lot.

I guess I'm all alone on this one but that is alright. I just simply do not see this as a wise move. That's all.

Regardless if you consider yourself too left or too right, you're certainly not too bright.

No, the problem here is your political preferences. I can bet you 1 to a trillion that If that idea would have come out of Bush or Collin Powell mind you and almost all Republicans would have jump out in aggreement and even cried out of emotion!

Why it is so hard to see that Republicans and Liberal are just two parties that were invented to get us all excited against each other and at the end they are the same crap to keep us at bay?

Lets think for ourselves! We stopped doing that a long time ago and that is why we are where we are.

I'm afraid you won't like Colin Powell's current stance:
Colin Powell: ‘Nuclear Weapons Are Useless’

General Colin Powell in an introduction to a new film called the Nuclear Tipping Point didn’t mince words. In a forceful and direct presentation, the former Cold Warrior talked about his experience in dealing with nuclear weapons throughout his military career. Powell discussed the nuclear planning that he conducted against the Soviets in Europe and the responsibility of having oversight of 28,000 nuclear weapons as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Through these experiences, Powell concluded that nuclear weapons are “useless” and ought to be eliminated.

Is this about the deal with the old enemy to limit nukes right?

I dont get why people think we need them these days. Keep one. Thats all it takes to fuck it all up.

While Obama is at it, maybe he should have a word with Isreal.....

I was afraid that idiot would do something like this

He's taking an idea that was implausible from the cold war era, and implemented it in a drastically changed international setting, where with players like the SCO, Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea, it is an impossible strategy

the world has become a much more dangerous place since the Obama administration commenced its term, in large part owing to the Obama diplomatic incompetence

Yes Nick, I finally saw the light. You, lacking evidence, credibility and logic, have convinced me that Obama is making the world more dangerous for America. You're a genius.

You need to learn to read. He said nukes were STILL in play for countries with nukes....like Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea.

Come, come: that is more than a generous interpretation of what he has actually committed the US to. And before anyone claims the moral high ground here let us remember that only one nation has ever released mass destruction on civilians.
