No, the problem here is your political preferences. I can bet you 1 to a trillion that If that idea would have come out of Bush or Collin Powell mind you and almost all Republicans would have jump out in aggreement and even cried out of emotion!

Why it is so hard to see that Republicans and Liberal are just two parties that were invented to get us all excited against each other and at the end they are the same crap to keep us at bay?

Lets think for ourselves! We stopped doing that a long time ago and that is why we are where we are.

Great point Farallon. As long as we fight each other we all are kept at bay.

Transparency? Come on.... Obama hasn't been transparent. And ambiguity in what we might respond with IS a good thing.

Industrial - great link. Thanks. The Powell doctrine was the best thing to come out of Washington Defense related policy in a long time. I understand his point but I don't think if he were president he would make such a statement.

Vinyl - I'm sorry to see you drop to name calling. It tells a lot about you.

Come, come: that is more than a generous interpretation of what he has actually committed the US to. And before anyone claims the moral high ground here let us remember that only one nation has ever released mass destruction on civilians.

To which I respond with two words: "Bomber Harris".

To me it makes a lot of sense, it is an attempt to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons, after all many countries don't agree with US foreign policy, "if they are not with us then they they’re against us"....quote from recent US president! So to remove any ambiguity this statement was released. After all UK US France Russia, China et al have accepted the MAD doctrine, (Mutually Assured Destruction).

The little island in the Atlantic, UK is able to vaporise 256 cities from Submarine launched ICBM’s. Then there are the short range, medium range and tactical weapon systems.

So really by saying that the US won't use nuclear weapons against none nuclear states, reduces the threat of them developing their own nuclear capability.

Saying it means nothing when people believe everything your country says is a lie. Though it does win over a very small percentage of the "less" radical.

Agreed the same country that invented concentration camps and genocide. Christ we even made it law to shoot a race of people on sight and made finacial payments for their bodies.

Concentration camps were set up during the boar wars and the Bushmen were ordered to be shot on sight! Good old UK!

But we won so it's OK

I think after seeing us lie about finding Weapons of Mass Destruction (Iraq), whether or not we torture people (Guantanamo Bay, Abu Grahib), and watching us claim to support the soverignty of other countries while attempting to manipulate/replace their leaders/government for our own ends (Vietnam, Korea, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.), people are probably a little bit cynical about our intentions. Hell, before Obama was elected, worldwide support of the US was in the toilet.

Though obviously you have an issue with transparency in action.

Oh that's what Obama meant by transparency. Showing the world our hand while shuting out his own people. What a joke!

An Associated Press examination of 17 major agencies' handling of FOIA requests found denials 466,872 times, an increase of nearly 50% from the 2008 fiscal year under Bush

Transparency and Open Government

Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies

SUBJECT: Transparency and Open Government
My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government.
Government should be transparent. Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing. Information maintained by the Federal Government is a national asset. My Administration will take appropriate action, consistent with law and policy, to disclose information rapidly in forms that the public can readily find and use. Executive departments and agencies should harness new technologies to put information about their operations and decisions online and readily available to the public. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public feedback to identify information of greatest use to the public.
Government should be participatory. Public engagement enhances the Government's effectiveness and improves the quality of its decisions. Knowledge is widely dispersed in society, and public officials benefit from having access to that dispersed knowledge. Executive departments and agencies should offer Americans increased opportunities to participate in policymaking and to provide their Government with the benefits of their collective expertise and information. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public input on how we can increase and improve opportunities for public participation in Governme

Omitted is the part where about 466,850 of those denials were wingnut birther requests for Obama's 'longform' birth certificate. :biggrin1:

No you've just got shit on your nose from giving Barack a rimjob!

Actually I heard he's clean down there. Perhaps he uses some kind of cleaning solution? You're nothing but a douche anyhow, so I'm sure you know plenty about that.

A word to the wise, Little_q... in a game of the dozens, I'm ALWAYS many steps ahead of my adversary. It would be wise of you to pick another game to play because it's growing tired beating you to shreds in this one.

This does not make sense.

Why advertise what we would or would not do....

Even if we wouldn't use them in several cases - WHY WOULD YOU TELL THEM THAT!!!!

Ambiguity is a good thing sometimes!

This has been the US policy ever sense we had a nuclear bomb. it was our policy with the Soviet Union during the cold war... The reasoning is that we will only use our weapons for defensive means. and not just run around killing people because we feel like it... oh yeah, that's what Bush did in Iraq.
