We actually agree on this. I think one of the big problems with people on the right is their attempt to come off as perfect. Cheating happens. Scandals happen. Those things are bad and can ruin and probably should ruin your political career in most cases. What makes it so much worse is the attempt to sell the image you know is a lie - kinda like Tiger.

Where we disagree is that I do think it matters. If you cheat on your spouse - to me - that is a serious betrayal. If you will cheat on your spouse then you will screw over the people and country for sure.

Actually, the issue here isn't whether or not they hold themselves up to be paragons of morality and righteousness. The issue here is when they attempt (and frequently succeed) in legislating their morality and righteousness over a larger, diverse, pluralistic society.

Anyone can have an asinine opinion: it's a free country. People are entitled to be as obnoxious as they'd care to be. The difference is that lawmakers have the power to influence the lives of millions of people and need to be held to a higher standard than some guy who can hit a small ball really far.

There is absolutely no real correlation between infidelity and one's ability to do a job. An argument like that is blindly ideological at best with no substantial credibility.
