It seems like the elections come early for BO. After all that budget crap, he's come out & decided to spend another half billion a year!:biggrin1: EDIT half a TRILLION:eek: - my mistake!

He's presently addressing the congress, & offering the moon on a stick, with contradictory bullshit like (paraphrased).

"we're gonna review every rule, but we're gonna protect everything that actually makes us uncompetitive":biggrin1:

Real -"Let's show the world why America remains the greatest nation on earth!" "Let's get to work".

"If we've got Hyundais in the US, let's see Fords & Chevy's in South Korea. He's getting all hokesy folksy now too with a lot of patriotic rhetoric.

It seems there will be $447 billion available for his jobs act. I wonder how much of that will actually wind up in the pockets of the people on the street. Btw, there were no details whatsoever - just guff - delivered well, but just guff.

For all the atheists out there, he stated "We will always remain one nation, indivisible under God"! I think he's reaching out to those floating voters again!

Bloody politicians. They can all suck satan's ass in hell.

If he just stopped paying the interest to Goldman Sachs et al, on money lent free to them (by the US taxpayer!), to buy Treasury bonds @ 5%, that would save $200-300 billion annually. Why didn't he just do that! Pah!

He's many things but President Obama's hardly an idiot.

The speech was pretty fucking excellent, if you ask me, but the response from the loyal opposition *cough cough* was frequently shameful. How off one's meds must one be to not applaud the GI Bill?

Here's a link to the entire thing; it's worth a watch.

I'm going to paraphrase another user who put this as succinctly as I think it can be put; no matter what plan he proposes ("Tax cuts for anyone who votes Republican!" was the tag line I'm thinking of) there is a group of Congressman who would vote against it. There are talking heads who would qualify any plan this President came up with as a brick on the path to (fill-in-your-favorite-news-crawl-melodramatic-reference-to-the-apocalypse-with-appropriate-theme-music.)

It will either hurt the economy, bring about socialism, result in death panels, enrage the international community, destroy small business, up-end the American way of life, or exacerbate what ever problem it is intended to address; now let's hear what he has to say so we can decide which it is this time.

A good plan, a bad plan, it makes no difference- it won't get through Congress the way it is proposed as their entire legislative agenda is to tank anything that comes out of the White House and ensure this country is in the worst possible shape in 2012 so as to make their primary goal (That Barack Obama be a one term president) a reality.

With that as the reality of the situation, discussion over the actual merits of anything he proposes seems almost moot; what difference does it make? It's like planning how you would spend the money if you won the lottery- an enjoyable pastime but 99.999 % of the time just a pipe dream.

I think its worth noting that during his speech a good 55% of those in congress were apparently holding a frail piece of potato chip in between their buttcheeks. While a good 20% looked like that felix the cat clock. A tough bill to pass? Yup sure, of course. Thats why he quoted republicans repeatedly in his speech. I'm surprised he didn't name name's then ask'm to rise to the pledge of alleeeeeegence.

Was this the "BIG" speech he announced 3 weeks ago? Oh wait there's details to come...but we have to wait 1 more week! Incompetence in Chief.
I'm surprised he didn't start playing music at the end...The 2012 campaign has begun!

So err he's incompetent for wanting to start his bid for re-election early? If in fact this was a bid that is. Not saying it is or if it isn't....i'm kinda just saying.

The speech was refreshing, in that President Obama finally presented as a leader at the forefront of an issue rather than leading from behind. I feel the proposal is lacking and I was not a fan of the deregulation portion, but much bolder than I thought he would produce and it seems a step in the right direction for this administration.

Perhaps the greater victory of the moment, was the ability of the speech to expose a majority of the GOP, way too confident in their stony faced, "we're here to create jobs" insincerity, as a group that would rather watch the country burn than act. That is, if they fail to act, as the gauntlet was definitely thrown.

I actually saw the speech this evening and it was impeccably delivered and seemed quite genuine. I think he understands just how hard he's going to have to shove this but the good intentions are there.

Having said that, while this bill will create some jobs, I didn't hear (or have yet to see) one initiative that will go towards actually increasing real production in the USA, which seems to be the root of the immediate problem for the everyday man. Building better bridges and faster railways with money you don't have doesn't seem to be a very clever move. It's a completely understandable one for a left-ish administration, however.

President Obama displayed little in terms of the Left in this speech. It was, as he is, very Centrist in presentation.

Regarding infrastructure projects, there really is no downside - the government prevents failure of ailing structures, modernizes where needs exist, and sparks consumer behavior. I side with Reich on the issue of borrowing -

Every time you hear anyone say we’re “broke” or “can’t afford to spend more,” tell them we’ll be in worse shape if we don’t. If the economy remains dead in the water, the ratio of public debt to GDP balloons.

And remind them that the federal government can now borrow at fire-sale rates. Interest on the ten-year Treasury bill is 2 percent. (Robert Reich (The Zero Economy))

This is a perfect occasion to borrow and initiate public works projects/Main Street stimulus.

I couldn't have put it more succinctly myself. While the political debate and discussion can be emotionally charging, to quote Mr. Spock (yes, I'm a geek) "A difference which makes no difference IS no difference". Until the presdential election, pretty much NOTHING is really going to be accomplished. No real progress, lots of sabotage, lots of partisan bickering and finger pointing. Money will be wasted of course, but nothing will be accomplised. Has anybody really LISTENED to what the platform of the republican party is? They stated VERY clearly "Our main goal, whatever it takes, is to get Obama out of office". NOTHING else matters to them!!! YOU sure as hell don't matter to them! Why is anybody even worried about Obama? They will say, do, spend, corrupt, destroy, kill, maim, lie cheat and steal ANYTHING to accomplish their goal. That level of single mindedness, with the level of wealth and power they have to back it, will accomplish that goal. They want to be KINGS! They want to ABOLISH democracy! Why can't anybody see that? They have SAID so by saying they want to establish themselves as the ONLY party! Welcome to the North American Bannana Republic!

Now that was very funny! and true

There can be no doubt that Obama delivered his speech well (though I really think he should start tinting his hair), but it's all just the usual flim flam we've heard from countless master speech readers over the years - the rhetoric inspires, & then what what actually transpires is depressing.

He MUST have been planning to present this Act before all that budget fuss - it does seem to make a mockery of the process.

The analysis I watched directly afterwards (& after I posted the thread) claimed that he said "PASS THIS BILL" 17 times. Apparently, they said, he can put through this bill without support from the house!

Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, without dealing with the colossal amounts that The Goldman Sachs et al are raping from the public, for nothing(!), nothing really is going to change, & there is little to believe in.

I think the speech was needed for the people's good. Was it a good speech, sure it was. Obama is great at giving speeches. Will it work, NO. Why, because everything is about our great leaders being re-elected and supporting big business.

For decades now they haven't given a dam about the people and their not about to start now. Both sides and the president have lost all reality, have no clue and don't want to fix anything for this country. One million construction workers [850,000 of them hispanic who send most of their pay checks back to their countries, and pay very little taxes due to the many children they have], the steel comes from China, etc....A failure to boost the economy. How about taxing China for the new roads and bridges, it's mostly their goods were transporting. How about taxing Ford when they want to bring in all the cars that will be made in India [5000 new jobs in India].

We are not number one anymore, infact now number 5 in the world. If we don't educate our children, invest in this new global trading, were for good gone. Though I applaud the mentioning of our returning vets, what a bunch of shit that is. Remember they should have already been home. Oh ya, maybe stopping a war or two, maybe stop the pentagon from spending, maybe take away pensions from part jobs, like our congressmen and women, maybe only allow the white house one family jet, maybe protect our southern border, maybe educate our welfare people and start a relocation program. [ example; here in Tn. welfare is up only 10%, from 60% in my cty. to 70% and has probably been over 50% for decades].

There are two areas that could help with jobs, medical and the tech fields. In our Tn. valley VA system that is way below par, we have thousands of people who are completely useless, can't even commuicate with the patients let alone do their job to help the vets. Drugs seem to be the answer. Didn't hear that on the big speech last night. I guess that's why we'll keep them at war, bringing them back to a torn down health care system wouldn't help. Maybe stop all the fraud in the medicare,ss system, oh ya we can't prosecute insurance co's, drug co's, banks, wall st.,doctors,etc.....

Oh well, spend 475 bil, send 100 bil back to mexico, re-elect these assholes, stay at war, give billions to dictators, free food, free babies, raise taxes for the middle class and shove it up our kids asses.

Obama speech=90%.....Action 0%...What to beleive in; Lawyers, guns and money.
Oh Ya, good old rock n roll.

2012 will just be another free fucking for all. I better go get my balls pierced.
