"Two out of three Americans who watched President Obama's health care reform speech Wednesday night favor his health care plans, a 14-point gain among speech-watchers, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. national poll."

Polls show Obama won big time

By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist
Two polls that matter show President Barack Obama had a strong showing with the American people Wednesday night.
His passionate speech on the absolute need for health care reform resonated with many.
-- The CBS News poll said Obama's approval rating soared from 62 percent to 69 percent after the speech.
-- A CNN poll said 68 percent of its respondents gave a thumbs up to the speech. Only 8 percent were negative.
Now Obama must build on the strength of his good speech to get real health care reform passed in Congress.
The moment of success he created Wednesday night should not be allowed to wither and die in Washington.

Polls show Obama won big time | Midwest Voices

That article references the insignificant CNN poll and a CBS poll. Care to link to the CBS poll? Most of the polls on the CBS website are not favorable to Obama:
The public's approval of how Mr. Obama is handling health care fell six points between July and August, and now more Americans disapprove (47 percent) than approve (40 percent).
CBS article

Poll: More Wary of Obama on Health Care
Poll: Two-Thirds Confused by Health Reform

Wilson's outburst was grossly inappropriate. It gave clear evidence for all to see what a pack of racist douchbags inhabit the Republican Party. It also probably helped Obama and the Dems.
Dave

Nothing helped Obama. It demonstrated that Obama is not being straight with the American people and someone had the guts to say it.

I just reviewed the posts in this thread.

One theme is clear. The Obama supporters routinely resort to name calling (stupid, racist, cracker, etc) but I haven't seen one conservative-minded poster do that. I wonder why?
I guess you haven't read some of the bon mots scribed by some of our right wing contributors. My favorite name that I have been called is Fucknoid.

A little backround on Heckler in Chief Wilson:
Whether because of his outspokenness or in spite of it, Wilson is a major recipient of contributions from the health care industry.
In fact, over his entire congressional career, health professionals represent Wilson's top industry contributors, donating a total of $244,196 to his campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics OpenSecrets.org database. He received another $86,150 from pharmaceutical companies, $73,050 from insurance companies and $68,000 from hospitals and nursing homes.
Among Wilson's top contributors are the American Hospital Association, a lobby group that represents the interests of hospitals and health networks, and the American Medical Association, which represents physicians.

Daily Kos: Obama speech disrupter a health industry darling

See, now that's an understandable reason for opposing the health care reforms. If you (or your gravy train) stands to lose money by virtue of the implementation of a more just and efficient health care system, it's understandable that your avarice would trump any concerns for the well being of individual Americans, the society at large, the national economy.

And if that's the case, just be honest and own that reality. Don't go raising up the spectre of phantom boogeymen to scare the less informed. Don't go using transparent code words ("socialism", "government takeover", or my personal favorite, "need a better plan" (Hahahahahahahahahahah! AS IF, the people who oppose health care reform really want a better plan. Hahahahahahahah!) etc.) to whip up a frenzy of knee-jerk partisanship by the radio army.

Just own that:

1) you're in bed with the big, rich corporations who stand to (possibly) see their mammoth profits lessened somewhat, if health care reform is instituted; or

2) that you're a knee-jerk partisan with no legitimate reason to oppose health care reform other than it's the "Republican thing to do"; or

3) that you're just cruel and heartless and think that "less wealthy" people don't deserve health care.

Do that and I'd at least respect the honesty.

So, when you've also referred to some people as "racist", "blind", and referred to me as someone in the "permanent victim class" you were just making an accurate observation? Or were you just "name calling" just like the people you like to demonize?

Let me know when it's safe to call you pretentious, OK? Oops...

FACT CHECK: Obama uses iffy math on deficit pledge

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama used only-in-Washington accounting Wednesday when he promised to overhaul the nation's health care system without adding "one dime" to the deficit. By conventional arithmetic, Democratic plans would drive up the deficit by billions of dollars.
The president's speech to Congress contained a variety of oversimplifications and omissions in laying out what he wants to do about health insurance.
A look at some of Obama's claims and how they square with the facts or the fuller story:
___
OBAMA: "I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future. Period."
THE FACTS: Though there's no final plan yet, the White House and congressional Democrats already have shown they're ready to skirt the no-new-deficits pledge.
House Democrats offered a bill that the Congressional Budget Office said would add $220 billion to the deficit over 10 years. But Democrats and Obama administration officials claimed the bill actually was deficit-neutral. They said they simply didn't have to count $245 billion of it — the cost of adjusting Medicare reimbursement rates so physicians don't face big annual pay cuts.
Their reasoning was that they already had decided to exempt this "doc fix" from congressional rules that require new programs to be paid for. In other words, it doesn't have to be paid for because they decided it doesn't have to be paid for.

And everything else we can't agree on...Obama and the Democrats are going to "make empty promises to pass a bill" and "Shine" the American people on. No thanks!

Kill all the Bills and Start Over.

Why do they think they can handle all health care for everybody---obama wake up-just freeze costs at the current level for 5 years & that would fix the problem--i am beginning to think obama might be a muslim . He took over the automobile industry, banks energy, whats next

As if problems with Medicare started with THIS administration. LOL!
Still, it doesn't stop more than 70% of our seniors from being on it. And God forbid if our government tampers with its own health coverage!!

If Bush would not have spent trillions killing people overseas, it would be much easier to implement this health care thing. Thats why I love Canada...we are not commies and have way more freedom than the US.

You are confused. Obama chose to run for President in 2008 because he thought he had the answers to massive problems facing this nation. He touted his little blueprint for America and claimed he had everything paid for without raising taxes (on those 250k and under) and without increasing the deficit. In fact he said he had a plan to reduce the deficit.

Medicare is apart of the many problems that we needed an experienced and knowledgable President to address. Medicare is going broke by 2017 and Obama is going to somehow cut 500 Billion out of it without reducing benefits for seniors to help pay for his Obamacare. Everybody in their right mind says it is NOT possible.

Seniors want to be on Medicare but they don't want it bankrupt anymore than Americans want the U.S. economy bankrupted. We are in debt and we have to turn around our GDP. The insolvency of Medicare, Social Security have to be addressed, but Obama isn't fixing that. He's taking on more until it all falls apart.

Whew, that's a doozy of a post.

I really think this idea of just freezing costs has promise. Can you talk to the petroleum companies about that? Retail merchandisers? Utility providers? Maybe Mr. Freeze could help out! (Mr. Freeze - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Some folks might object to the freezing of markets, though, might'nt they? Wouldn't freezing the market amount to a takeover of sorts? Which seems to be something you passionately oppose?

As you sagely point out, takeover of industry is a hallmark of Islam, so it might raise some eyebrows, especially in South Carolina perhaps....

Hmm.....

Trinity: I wasn't addressing that comment to you. Besides, you loss the right to debate with me a long time ago. Take your opinionated garbage to someone else.

If you are unable to address the issues and support what you state, then that is your problem. You proved you weren't up to the intellectual challenge a long time ago.

Rep. Joe Wilson told the truth:

ObamaCare will cover illegal immigrants-Congressional Research Service
September 10, 2009

Mark Tapscott discovers a nugget in the analysis provided by the Congressional Research Office on HR3200, the House version of ObamaCare coming to the floor. While Barack Obama insists that the idea that ObamaCare will cover illegal immigrants is a "myth," the CRS points out that the bill does nothing to prevent it. Since HR3200 doesn't require people to establish citizenship or legal residency before applying to exchanges for health insurance, including the public option, taxpayer money will certainly flow to illegal immigrants:

"Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option…H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange."

Thanks for bringing that to light Trinity.

Also, do the Dems on here have an answer to the NONPARTISAN Congressional Budget Office that says the proposed health care plan is not economically feasible?

Here is what the Director of the CBO reported:

The director of the Congressional Budget Office issued a warning to Democrats Thursday that their health care proposals would raise costs, not lower them.

One day after a Senate panel approved its version of the health care reform plan, the first committee to do so, CBO Director Doug Elmendorf gave a dose of bad medicine to a separate committee.

Asked by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., whether costs would be lowered -- also known as "bending the curve" -- Elmendorf responded: "The curve is being raised."

Specter wants Wilson censured

Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Penn.), who's looked at POTUS from both sides now, was just on the Bill Press radio show suggesting the South Carolina firebrand Joe Wilson be censured for his heckle heard round the world.

You live in a dream world. The 2 polls you cite here were BEFORE Obama's speech.

Of course they were. As I stated, those were the polls listed on the CBS website. If you would be so kind as to post a link to the poll your article referenced then we can all see what you were touting.

As I pointed out about above, outburst or no outburst. Joe Wilson was correct. Obamacare is written to allow coverage of illegal immigrants. I'm sure Obama and the Democrats want to stay talking about House Rules and Decorum but I'm talking about my healthcare. And Rep. Wilson was telling the truth and Obama wasn't...about a lot of things in that speech.

You may continue to believe what you want to believe...........(and for the record, Obama's health care plan and Hillary Clinton's Primary health care plan are the same........you remember hillary, don't you?)

From politifact.org, a NON partisan Pulitzer Prize winning organization:Joe Wilson of South Carolina said Obama lied, but he didn't

When we look at all of this evidence, it seems that health reform leaves in place the status quo on illegal immigration, and certainly does not provide any new benefits particularly for illegal immigrants.

PolitiFact | Joe Wilson of South Carolina said Obama lied, but he didn't

From Factcheck.orgFalse: Illegal Immigrants Will Be Covered
One Republican congressman issued a press release claiming that "5,600,000 Illegal Aliens May Be Covered Under Obamacare," and we’ve been peppered with queries about similar claims. They’re not true. In fact, the House bill (the only bill to be formally introduced in its entirety) specifically says that no federal money would be spent on giving illegal immigrants health coverage:
H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.
Also, under current law, those in the country illegally don’t qualify for federal health programs. Of interest: About half of illegal immigrants have health insurance now, according to the nonpartisan Pew Hispanic Center, which says those who lack insurance do so principally because their employers don’t offer it.

Yep, I do remember Hillary. And Hillary had a universal healthcare plan and Obama refused to mandate universal coverage. In other words, they had different plans.

I get my fact checking from the Congressional Research Service.
In its subsection on health insurance subsidies (known as “affordability credits”), HR 3200 does state, “Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.” That would seem to solve the problem, but it’s more rhetoric than reality. The bill contains no verification requirement or enforcement process for citizenship or legal residency, as exists for other federal benefit programs. The only verification required for the subsidies pertains to family income. Beyond that, as the CRS report notes, everything is left in the hands of the Health Choices Commissioner.
House Democrats defeated all attempts in committee to add an enforcement mechanism that would require proof of citizenship or legal residency for those getting subsidies.
Congressional Research Service: ObamaCare will cover illegal immigrants

“Treatment of Non-Citizens in HR3200 - Congressional Research Service
CRS also notes that “undocumented aliens” who have a “substantial presence” in the US would be required to buy health insurance (page 4) through the exchanges in HR3200. They would also become eligible for “emergency Medicaid,” although not normal Medicaid (page 6) for up to five years.
What about Section 246, which I said would prevent the spending of money on illegal aliens? The CRS analysis is less than impressed with that portion of the bill. Section “246 would bar unauthorized aliens from receiving any premium or cost-sharing credit,” it says, but that may be hard to enforce. It also states later that “absent of a provision in the bill specifying the verification procedure, that the Commissioner would be responsible for determining a mechanism to verify the eligibility of noncitizens for the credits” — or in other words, HR3200 fails to provide it entirely. I gave it a little too much credit, apparently, more than Congress’ own analysts do.

Still waiting on your link to the CBS poll.
