Illinois Bill Obama SPONSORED would result in most women being billed for the rape kits!!!!

The Bill forbids using collection agency like tactics against any crime victim for any expense incurred for the investigation of the crime. And if the victim meets certain hardship criteria they can ask the court for emergency funds if they cannot pay for the kit themselves, BUT if the cost of the kit cannot be recovered from the perpetrator the cost goes back to the alleged victim. If the victim was a minor or disabled, and reported the crime within 72 hours and obeyed other criteria the state would pay the expense. Most women under the bill Obama sponsored would be stuck with the charges. - iusbvision

Nice attempt to twist it around.

What a fucking bitch.

And you KNOW when this hits the presses hard... Palin will lose even more of the female vote.

That's what you get for not vetting your candidate first. LOL!!!

The Illinois Bill Obama SPONSORED was legislation to reimburse victims of crimes, and extend the period of time during which they could file claims from one to two years.

IL will pay up to $27,000 per victim:

In the state of Illinois, House Bill 1814 (HB1814) amends the Crime Victims Compensation Act. It was passed in 2001. As indicated here, this bill:

"According to the Sexual Assault Emergency Treatment Act, the Illinois Department of Public Aid will reimburse the costs of ER treatment if you do not have public aid or private medical insurance. Under the Illinois Crime Victim’s Compensation Act, if you report the assault to the police within 72 hours of the crime and if you file a claim application within two years of the date of the crime, you can be reimbursed for out-of-pocket medical expenses, loss of earnings, psychological counseling, and loss of support income due to the crime. Reimbursement can be up to $27,000."

Stupid question: what the hell is a rape kit?

Wikipedia:

A rape kit, also called sexual assault evidence collection kit, sexual assault forensic evidence (SAFE) kit or Sexual Offense Evidence Collection (SOEC) kit in New York[1] is a set of items used by medical personnel for gathering and preserving physical evidence following a sexual assault which can be used in criminal proceedings. The kit was developed by Louis R. Vitullo and was for years referred to as the Vitullo kit.

Thanks Rubi. So it's pretty much like what happens whenever any other crime is committed and reported...i don't see the issue here...

nice try.....

....silly republicans, when will they learn?

Not sure they can 'learn' in the classic sense

Learn - To gain knowledge, comprehension, or mastery of through experience or study.

Conservative - Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.

The two terms don't tend to go together...at all.

N.B. In New End's thread he mentioned that charging for the rape kits is a common practice. The bill Obama sponsored allowed victims to be reimbursed.

Your own link says:

According to a 2008 U.S. News and World Report article, some Illinois rape victims are still being charged for the rape kits.

The state seemed to address this in a 2001 law, but it would seem that as usual, passing a law and getting a bureaucracy to comply are two different things.

This is not an article in support of what you are attempting to say.

You poor thing. You mentioned a thread I started before...you are well aware that I know he sponsored that bill. And it seems the bill Obama sponsored is ineffective in addressing the matter of keeping victims of rape from paying for rape kits because by your own source - the link you provided, women are still paying for rape kits in IL.

It must be Obama's fault then! All he did was sponsor a bill to try and stop the travesty. What an asshole!!!

What the fuck do you think you are trying to pull?

Thank you for providing a link proving Obama is against women paying for their own rape kits, and sponsored a bill to try and end it. I knew you would come around to love the guy.
