I agree, Drifterwood. The Bush Administration made an indelible (and generally negative) mark on much of the world and it will take years of work to restore trust, rebuild alliances and move on.

They say a week is a long time in Politics, so I think on one level at least we will move on much quicker than you think. We know the difference between the two administrations and actions will speak louder than words.

What I think may take more time, or perhaps never, is for some US people to change their attitude to the rest of the world. I definitely mean some BTW.

Some of us over here have been waiting for a long time. I'm not sure it's going to happen in our lifetime.

The only negative I've noticed about the trip is that the Prez was so nervous about meeting William and Katherin that he 'backdated' his signature in their book (2008)...

I can see how that can happen.... he has so many numbers running through his head right now...

but seriously... not hearing anythng negative here in my parts (or maybe just ignoring some of it.) The tornadoes?? REALLY, I mean REALLY???? Come on, you mean you are telling me that there are people upset b/c he is out of the country during the natural disasters taking place? If that's so then he'd NEVER get to go anywhere.... (and I'm from one of the worst hit areas....) Who cares if he comes personally to survey the damage? All he has to do is CARE! He can do that long distance and still take care of foreign goodwill....

Now I see why your Fancy Pants.

And I totally disagree.

I'm a man with a small dick, who is a big dick.

Just imagine what hundreds of millions of dollars would do for your neighbors in the disaster areas. He has spent that just on vacations.

As for the first lady, saw her dress and hat, lovely, the new age. To bad not the new change, he promised.

I guess everybody forgot good ole Alabama, mississippi flooding, libya, debt, recession, inflation, single mother's, unemployement, carp money, borders, vets, ss, ssd, broke, etc........................

I hate disageeing with women, I always loose, but not this time. Still love your pics!!!!

It seems he's getting alot of flak back home for this trip, how come?
I watch Fox News, CNN everyday. On the internet i read everything i can get my hands on, including the papers in the U.K. The president and the first lady got a very warm welcome. I haven't heard of any flak at all. The trip is going well.

What? I'm sure I'm misreading this: It looks like you're saying President Obama has spent "hundreds of millions of dollars"... "just on vacations"? Is that a typo or are you trying to be funny?

There is very deep rooted goodwill to the US from all parts of the UK. Personally it stems from my Dad wanting to be a Cowboy and Elvis, perhaps not so easy from me, but it is still there.

Well i have talked to you in length about growing up with the music and comedy and culture of your wonderful country. Many in America have also. So the feeling is mutual .

Obama's current trip overseas is not just a vacation. On top of this, he has already addressed the tornado victims and will make a visit to them over the weekend. Foreign Affairs is also an important thing that needs to be addressed. Also, are you insinuating that the first lady is spending excessive amounts of money on her new outfits? Although she ain't shopping at Modell's or Old Navy like the common folk, since when did J. Crew and H&M constitute as expensive couture?

I guess everybody forgot good ole Alabama, mississippi flooding, libya, debt, recession, inflation, single mother's, unemployement, carp money, borders, vets, ss, ssd, broke, etc.

Ummmmmm... have you actually been paying attention to the threads around here over the last couple of years? We all "forgot" about Libya, the debt, the recession, etc? Step down from the soap box and stop playing that sad song on the broken fiddle. Nobody is gonna fall for this.

I'd bet the house that if your President hadn't gone to Europe to attend the the G8/G20 meetings, and instead had gone to Kansas, you would be whining about how Obama is ignoring foreign affairs.

typo...mucho millions....also trying to get some humor out of all this.

VB....actually i liked it, but not much interested in the first lady. it's the prez i'm concerned about. not the time to be mixing business with pleasure. i'm sure you'll disagree with that too.

All things considered, FEMA support and MONEY showed up 24 hours after Jopmo was reduced to toothpicks. How many days did it take to get that same agency to just fly over New Orleans after Katrina? Worst thing is that those tornados and golf-ball sized killing hail aren't over. Today the world weather channel mentioned that the storm front making tornados is moving north to New Jersey and New York!? It's been a while since the State of New York suffered a tornado. But it does happen.

As for the fabulous Curious George W's ability to spin diplomatic plates and tie his shoes at the same time, have any fellow 'Mericuhns seen New Orleans from about 30 thousand feet from a passenger jet lately? I recently took a short jaunt to Oaxaca, via Mexico City, on Delta. When we flew back the underpaid pilot (Boeing 737) noted that the big white expanse of concrete we could see at the mouth of the "deep muddy" was New Orleans. That's a lot of thousands upon thousands of acres of concrete.
