I predict Governor Palin's ethics investigation will be the October surprise. Yesterday, the Alaska State Senate Judiciary Committee voted to issue 13 subpoenas including one for palin's Husband. Of note, the republican party has been working overtime to put the brakes on this investigation. The Judiciary Committee is mad up of 5 Senators, 2 democrats and 3 republicans. The 2 democrats voted in favor of issuing the subpoenas. The republicans on the committee could ave easily squashed the subpoenas by voting in lock step against their issuance. One of the republican senators defected and voted with the Dems to issue the subpoenas. Even more interesting is that he is the Senator who represents Wasilla!

I think the surprise is that Dems have about double the cash the Repubs do. :biggrin1:

That's enough to flood the airwaves the same way bush did in 2004.

I think The October surprise for the Democrats is the Palin investigation. If she is tainted and revealed to be behind the firing then it will be difficult for the Republicans NOT to dump her. A rehash of McGovern in 1972. This will also make McCain look stupid for picking a candidate that was NOT properly vetted.

For the Republicans the surprise is if Bush captures or kills bin Laden. A big bounce in his popularity ratings and a bigger boost for McCain. Anybody else notice the increase of bombings in the mountains of Pakistan lately?

Bush pulling Bin Laden's head out of a hole at this point doesn't get him any higher ratings with me. When they captured Hussein, that was no more impressive as well. With what we've spent on this, both should've been captured and/or killed a long time ago.

The Bush legacy, as the other thread indicated is just one blurry mess of the past 8 years. Each new event just simply a distraction of the prior bad events of his tenure. The banking/real estate crisis is coming full circle like we all knew it would.
