I have never placed much if any value in the opinions of others, especially those whom I'll never know. I live by my own rules, which were/are based on experience and an innate sense of justice and fair play.

Of course, I also prefer using the words "standard" or "usual" over that odious work "normal", which I find cheapens the soul and disincentivizes individualism.
