Lately, I've read Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs and Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer.
I just finished Running With Scissors. I have to admit that I was somewhat underwhelmed. I know the author is limited by the extent of his experiences so I can't fault him that nothing much happened. What annoys me is that these people he lived with weren't so much counter-culturish as they were disgusting slobs. I thought he'd have some sort of revelation about what is and isn't important in life and perhaps that's to his credit that he doesn't, but I at least expected some kind of realization of what it all meant to him in a sort of summation of his younger years. It didn't seem to mean very much and yet, in his next book, he's drinking as though he was severely traumatized by life.
Picked up the new Johnny Cash biography someone gave me as a present and its pretty good. I was just planning to scan it because I have a juicy biography of Julius Caesar I'm wanting to dive into, but this is pretty well written and I'm really savoring his recreation of the dust bowl era and the squalor into which "JR" was born.
