It would be cool. Americans kind of snicker at them.
It took along time for toilet paper to become popular, because of the shame of buying it, and the ridiculous idea of spending money on paper, when newspaper would do fine.
One of the reasons Sears catalogs were so popular back in the day was because they were used for that purpose. The would hang them from a string in the bathroom/outhouse. People were very upset when Sears started using color pictures, because the paper was slick.
I have to say, as much as I want a bidet, I could never do what they do in some other countries, where they use their left hand and water. I have a friend who was in the armed services, and they didn't always have toilet paper and had to do that.
