This dissertation has come a bit too early, Flash. The "big states" are coming in and the pop vote will now begin to widen. Obama will emerge with a mandate and add to that, the gains in the senate & house and we (the dems) have shaped a transformational election. Pelosi holds the purse strings; unadulterated. The dems can now enact virtually any peice of legislature they want.

You are right, tough... the dems don't deserve it; they EARNED IT.

the big states are not "coming in"...California is the only "big state" coming in.

this is in fact going to be narrow in the popular vote.

and no, the democrats did not earn it...the republicans failed miserably.

neither of these parties have "earned" anything. they have a stranglehold on the political system and repress third party access, in collusion with each other. It is despicable

Obama will not emerge with a "mandate" with only 52-53% of the popular vote, any more than GW Bush had a mandate in 2004 with his narrow victory over Kerry.

it has not shaped a transformational anything. The transformation occurred in the congress in 2006. this is not a seismic shift. they democrats extended gain and won the white house, for the first time in 32 years with over 50% of the vote.

Pelosi may hold the purse strings, but they will not get to 60, and besides, she wil be holding the purse strings of a bankrupt country.

the dems cannot enact "virtually any piece of legislation they want". Conservative democrats have qualms, so do moderate republicans...if he does not govern from the middle, it will fail...and oh, by the way with regards to the massive change:

we now know what it took to elect Obama president...the most unpopular and worst republican president in the history of the United States. A massive horrible war that has cost hundreds of billions of dollars, thousands of lives, a complete economic collapse of 1920s proportions, and a total meltdown of incompetence by the republicans...and that still barely had Obama ahead...he still ahd to promise tax cuts to virtually all americans not making 250k a year, and actually supported Bush on the FISA Bill, and couldn't separate from a septuagenarian bland uninspired candidate till the last month, to win the race by probably 52%-48%

they earned nothing...the republicans ran this country into the ground...it is not to hard to offer a better alternative by simply showing up.

that is a fact.

the democrats have proposed nothing new, and the republicans have failed miserably.

as such, neither of these parties deserve to lead, and save for the epic blinkered madness of the people who vote for these two disgusting parties, these two parties would have been absolutely decimated by voters if anything similar to the original ideals that this coutnry was founded on where still relevant or important.

it is sad that neither democrats nor republicans can tell the difference anymore.
