Elections have consequences and this is one of them. Republicans have been whacking at abortion since they teamed up with the theocrats in the 1970s. They played the long game and they're about to win. Big.
You do understand that the restrictions on abortion being discussed in this thread are not immediately related to a change of state or federal law?
Instead, these asshole are using a global crisis to do what they could not do through legislation or the courts. Yes said assfucks were elected by like minded assfucks. Yes said assfucks exist in a very anti-choice climate. But even given almost free reign to deny women healthcare they could not outlaw access to abortion. Until now.
Abortion is not an elective procedure. Abortion has a small window of availability. It has a limited number of providers. And there are NO alternative procedures available to a woman wanting to terminate a pregnancy. If someone needed surgery, without an alternative treatment, that procedure can still be done. The choice to ban abortion for the duration of Covid-19 crisis response is based on politics and opportunity. It's in no way guided medical science or public health interests.
ETA: completely agree that anyone with a strong desire to protect the health and autonomy of women needs to put their ass in the voting booth. I've voted in every election held since coming of age. Access to abortion is ever in my top 5 issues. Sadly, too many folks are lazy, stupid or too damn self centered to buck the fuck up and demand shit get sorted.
