Republicans also went through great pains to make sure Planned Parenthood did not get any additional funding from the CARE Act.

In some communities Planned Parent Centers are the only accessable medical centers. It would be very easy to use Planned Parenthood for screening and community outreach. Considering the communities Plan Parenthood serves it will not be easy to set up a Conservative-serving alternative without wasting time or money.

Fucking assholes.

Also. Abortions are a time sensitive procedure. They can't wait for Easter.

I know I have a different-ish opinion than many of you... on a personal level, I am very strongly pro-life, but my vote is pro-choice. I support funding of PP because they do so much more than abortions... growing up in a college town, I know that they had a positive impact by providing affordable birth control and STD education & testing. That said- I didn't quite get why they were included in the democrat's version of the CARES act... how are they affected any differently than normal-state by COVID19? I don't understand why many republicans are so against PP, but that's another matter. But FFS who in their right fucking mind thinks that abortions are the same kind of "elective procedure" as a face-lift? This is bad. Very, very bad.

In some areas, they are the only accessible care for women, no matter the malady.
I’m also guessing they are trying to refund things that have been taken in other political grabs by the GOP.

I think you're right on the latter... and although I think PP should be well funded, I think it was kinda dumb to use COVID19 as an opportunity to get stuff back when so many people will need the benefits. Don't commingle issues. Especially when you know it's gonna be used against you.

And along the don't commingle issues line... people need to knock off the thinking that abortion is ALL that PP does. I got tired of seeing "the democrats used CARES to fund abortion" all over facebook and replying with facts.

In my best John Coffey voice... I'm tired, boss.

People forget federal money isn’t used or terminations without drastic medical need.

We have an election this year. Instead of complaining here, mobilize like-minded voters so that the problem is removed.

You are a fucking moron.

Women who need abortions now can't wait until November to vote the issue. They cannot wait for the Inauguration. They cannot wait for numerous court appeals.

I will be mobilizing the ignore function and removing your problematic contributions from my LPSG experience.

Elections have consequences and this is one of them. Republicans have been whacking at abortion since they teamed up with the theocrats in the 1970s. They played the long game and they're about to win. Big.

Unghhhhhhh

I am sure your delightful granddaughter was raised by a woman who wanted her. Had the means to care for her. And did not die in childbirth.

Your families blessing, seemingly in spite of its neuron lacking foundation, does not eliminate the need or right for grown-ass women to obtain a safe and legal abortion.

Ya lil anecdotal flail of sentiment is bullshit and you know.

You do understand that the restrictions on abortion being discussed in this thread are not immediately related to a change of state or federal law?

Instead, these asshole are using a global crisis to do what they could not do through legislation or the courts. Yes said assfucks were elected by like minded assfucks. Yes said assfucks exist in a very anti-choice climate. But even given almost free reign to deny women healthcare they could not outlaw access to abortion. Until now.

Abortion is not an elective procedure. Abortion has a small window of availability. It has a limited number of providers. And there are NO alternative procedures available to a woman wanting to terminate a pregnancy. If someone needed surgery, without an alternative treatment, that procedure can still be done. The choice to ban abortion for the duration of Covid-19 crisis response is based on politics and opportunity. It's in no way guided medical science or public health interests.

ETA: completely agree that anyone with a strong desire to protect the health and autonomy of women needs to put their ass in the voting booth. I've voted in every election held since coming of age. Access to abortion is ever in my top 5 issues. Sadly, too many folks are lazy, stupid or too damn self centered to buck the fuck up and demand shit get sorted.

Whoever thinks abortions are OK, needs to meet my Granddaughter just once. Sweet little girl. Then you can tell me how her life should have been ended before birth.

Your granddaughter is not relevant to this discussion
