Right...they only have a notorious environmental record, and since April 22nd managed to spill (by revised estimates) roughly two and a half times that of the Exxon Valdez...and counting.

^I'm particularly dismayed by BP's recent comments that they are actively REFUSING to release various data they have about the well and spill to scientists, who can then use the info to help figure out what the hell to do about the issue.

Of course. Anything you say can and will be used against you at trial. Always always remember you own ass first, shareholders second and everything else way down the list.

Awww... I'm surprised nobody liked the headline, which I did not editorialize. Yes, AP used 'tube' and 'sucking' in their headline! lol!

I think this should break BP as a company. To bad it bad it won't because it would serve as a lesson to the other oil producers (I think BP is a little to British to be here in the States). I vaguely remember them blowing a pipeline in Alaska and that too was a matter of negligence.

This country does not ever punish individuals for their greed induced fraud and malfeasance and so the oil drilling and stock peddling worlds become irrational. And then congresses and the presidents wonder why.

Gee an ocean full of poisonous propane and methane...

Sounds awesome, I bet it'll drastically alter the PH of the Gulf and will mix nicely with the half a million gallons of Corexit 9500 (which is 3-4 times more toxic than the oil itself) to form a toxic cocktail out of the Gulf seawater.

How long will it take for the Gulf to come back? 10 years? 50 years? 100 years? 200 years? 500 years?

Or will the Gulf's delicate chemical composition be permanently altered?

Nothing can ever be done fast enough for the right wingers... just had to remove the packing cement too early to save some time so that you could line your pockets with more money.

The safety cut-off valve was also interfering with your gushing profits and had to be left out of the plan.

You right winger's obsession with burning fossil fuels and extracting them whenever and wherever they can be found has worked out quite well don't you think?

You right wingers have steadfastly and vehemently opposed renewable energy in all of it's forms until you learned that you could make Dow and Monsanto rich with your disingenuous ethanol and switchgrass proposals.

And now we are fucked beyond recognition

I see the right wingers new commercials for sustainable energy but they are merely anti-Iran and pro-offshore natural gas drilling propaganda.

You assholes can't even take a teachable moment and learn from it! Nooooo you have to take this opportunity to ram through ill thought out natural gas exploration legislation and to ram up American sentiment against Iran.

    Nice... real nice.

DRILL BABY DRILL, you infantile morons!!!!!!

And you still all believe very very very rich companies are ethical bodies. What politicians say about BP and what they will actually do is two different things. Simples!

It looks like NOAA's forecasts for the oil getting down into the Loop Current and eventually into the Florida Straits were way too conservative. There have now been several reports of oil and tar balls spotted around the Florida Keys, with the Coast Guard already confirming some of them this afternoon...

And up where the main spill is... the new forecast isn't good new at all... The red marks on the linked map are where they expect oil to come ashore within the next 48 hours... :(

Most recent map of the portion of the Gulf that is closed to fishing... It's already a HUGE area, and will surely be expanded as the oil pushes towards both the Florida panhandle and the Keys.

I sort of got a chubby reading, "The tube was inspected and reinserted."

Oh please... nobody here believes in ethical corporations. To quote the songstress Lauryn Hill, "Everyone knows that they're guilty... everyone knows that they lie."

How did you come to this assessment based on the information you see in this thread?

it's just some crude oil, it really isn't that big a deal. heavy crude is pretty benign, in terms of toxicity

^Someone's trolling for a reaction again.

Oh, and plus you're wrong. Oil pollution/contamination is a very big deal.

I won't give you your demonstrative reaction, but I'll just ask: why don't you buy some beachfront property near the Mississippi Delta, eat some local fish, then go for a swim in the Gulf?
