Here's another video I found with Ryan Weiber in it, from the Ryan vs. Dorkman video I posted earlier:

YouTube - Ryan Wieber VS Brandon Flyte

These guys are so good at coreography- so highly original and well thought out, but what really gets me, especially in the first video, is how well the editing was done. Not just the FX work but I'm talking about how the individual shots (and there were a ton of them) were cut together- something not everyone thinks to appreciate. Really really top notch professional work, and they were in high school when they did the first video. They're working on a sequel to Ryan vs. Dorkman (4 years later) and it looks even sharper than the original.

Do you have Solaris? That was always my favorite Atari 2600 game, though I never understood what it had to do with Stanislav Lem.

Well, if you don't count Méliès ("Le Voyage dans la Lune", 1902 - a quarter century earlier than Lang's movie). Méliès also did a real weirdo about Arctic exploration in which all his intrepid explorers were eaten by a very unscientific giant ice-dwarf, which I don't think would qualify as SF. An old favorite of mine is a short, couldn't be more than a 2 reeler, and certainly predated WW1 - "Battle in the Clouds: a Romance of the Inventor of the Aerial Torpedo", which was neat-o in a Wellsian "Land Ironclads" or "War in the Air" sort of way.

Good point. I've seen "Le Voyage dans la Lune" and it's an excellent film in its own right, sci-fi or not. I've listened to many an argument about whether or not it is, in fact, a sci-fi film. For a 15 minute flick made around the turn of the century it has amazing special effects and sets. Obviously Metropolis has more elaborate special effects, costumes and sets (still the most expensive sets in movie history given the rate of inflation, or so i've read) and the story is easier to follow after they found the lost footage some years ago. But any movie based on a Jules Verne story should probably be considered science fiction.
L. Ron's real crime wasn't his B-feature output, but leading that old Astounding favorite van Vogt astray. v.V. apparently got tangled up in Dianetics for years, and when he finally returned to writing he just wasn't the same guy who'd cranked out Black Destroyer, Slan, Discord in Scarlet, Resurrection, Dormant, and The Pendulum (to name only a few). That was pretty wild stuff, particularly for 1939 and the early '40s.
I'm sure it was wild stuff for that particular era but it really wasn't my cup of tea. I was reading a lot of Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, and Harlan Ellison at the time which may have had something to do with it. I remember furrowing my brow and laughing a helluva lot while reading Dianetics. And Mr. Hubbard said himself "if you want to make money, create your own religion". The man may have lacked the talent to write a decent story but he wasn't an idiot.

YouTube - pure pwnage fps

For all my gaming nerds out there.. I thought this was pretty funny :)

I appreciate the digs they're trying to make against all those lame people who think they're awesome because they "pwn" (stupidest internet slang ever) the "noobs" in FPS and RTS games... but I've watched some of the videos and think they kind of drag in parts.

Hey now! I got my kid a limited edition superman laptop that he is nover going to use in life. He isn't even school age yet and he has collectables from
Lord of the Rings
Star wars
Multiple action figures
Spidy Laptop
comics you name it
All in their original boxes and/or plastic sleeves

He even has a clear plactic spoon with a lightsaber handle that he doesn't eat with. Got it out of a cereal box.
One prob with is. Red light and MAce Windo's handle. The light should've been purple.
He has south park plush toys that he does not play with. I knew a guy that had 28k worth of Staw wars memorabelia alone. I don't know if you're anywhere near him DJG bit if ya are,, SWEET, Good on ya.
Some folks ask me what is the point. The point is that when the kid gets to be an adult he will have one of the grndest collections you have ever seen. They say, "But what if he's not into Star Trek, Star Wars, BSG, Indiana Jones and all that like you and your bro?"

I simply reply. "There is no way that can happen. If I have anything to do with it, he will be."

I cannot be around my bro and main friends for more that 5min b4 the convo goes to TheForce.Net, or Leo Laport. Pod casts and the latest comis book movies that are in the making. Who they are looking at in the casting process and all that.
We constantly try to one up each other with new exciting info.
When hayden Christenson was on TRL (andI don't watch TRL) I called everyone. On Regis I called. When they went to the ranch on TRL I called.

Just can't seem to get enough of that damn George Lucas.
We talk about if Sean Conory is coming out of retirement to reprise his rols an Indies dad. How it would be nice if he did and this convo goes on for hours in detail.
I guess I am a bit geeky too DJG.
