Former Republican VP candidate, congressman Kemp dies - CNN.com He was a closet case?[/QUOTE] First I've heard of it!
Kemp "passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord" Sunday evening, a family statement said. He disclosed his illness in January.

"During the treatment of his cancer, Jack expressed his gratitude for the thoughts and prayers of so many friends, a gratitude which the Kemp family shares," the family said. Kemp quarterbacked the Buffalo Bills to back-to-back American Football League championships in 1964 and 1965, before the merger that created the modern NFL. When he retired in 1970 after 13 seasons, the California native ran for Congress and represented the Buffalo area for 18 years in the House of Representatives.

Perhaps rather than slammin' the dead with hearsay and rumors we should offer prayers and kind thoughts to his family and friends.

FWIW: Everyone knows those Republicans all have luxurious hunting lodges in the woods. It's not to get away from the wives, it's to commune with nature.

And if they get the chance, they'll have it bulldozed down for a few extra bucks.

And which actual president has been considered a closet case?

Pics or it didn't happen. :biggrin1: Seriously until a past lover of Kemps comes forward with e-mails, love letters, and IM's I'm content to believe he was just another conservative, homophobic Republican.

Hmm, even the Gay Patriot is at odds over whether or not he was a closet case. Most seem to think as I did in an earlier post. That we shouldn't speak ill of the dead; but offer condolences to his family and friends.

Associated Press this week ran a story in which one of Kemp's former campaign managers was asked about a report dating back nearly 30 years that Kemp participated in a wild gay party at a ski cabin, which he partly owned with several gay men, in Lake Tahoe. The story, which Charles Black who managed Kemp's campaign in 1988 dismissed as "totally unfounded", dates back to 1967 when Kemp worked for then-California Governor, Ronald Reagan. After the party the New York Times ran an article reporting that a "homosexual ring" was running Reagan's office. At least one of Reagan's aides was fired. Later, in the mid-1980s, Newsweek ran a report in which Kemp maintained his investment in the cabin was strictly a business arrangement. [snip]......................

So there's no evidence of Kemp's gayness except for slanderous remarks from questionable quarters. Not really a time to go dancing on the man's grave in a dubious attempt to out him, is it?

Kemp was about as "gay" as Michael Huffington, which begs the question: How many millions of dollars does it take to keep a gay Republican in the closet?

This thread takes me back to the olden times (1960's) when it was "all rumor and innuendo" that Rock Hudson was gay.

I'm certain he's been embalmed with Log Cabin Syrup. As for "dancing" on graves, fuck that. I'm just glad the old homophobe is dead. He caused enough trouble for the GLBT community in the USA for several lifetimes.

oh i don't think you have to go back to "olden times" I think there are plenty of "rock hudson" scenarios being played out in hollywood right now. it's just that with "method" actors they're so committed to the role they never break character, and even go the full 9 yards of getting married and having babies.
