Older guys who grew up before the manscaping era: do you shave or trim now, and why?

Youthful 68 here. Wax back, sac and crack. Also cock and the little arc above it. Pubes trimmed to be tidy. Love the feel and the comments it attracts. Also more confident about how 'welcoming' it is for whoever buries their face in my ass.

In my 40s so grew up when manscaping was only something swimmers did. Like others here, that association of hairiness with sexuality and manliness is something ingrained deeply in my psyche, so apart from one experiment with trimming 20 years ago I’ve left it untouched.

I have a lot of pubic hair as well so feel something of an outlier these days as I don’t even ‘neaten up’ the longer bits!

I’m curious to hear from older men who grew up in the pre-manscaping days, before trimming or shaving pubes became a thing. Do you shave or trim now? If so, what made you start? Especially since we came from a time when guys just let it all grow naturally.

I’ll share a bit about myself: I was born in the early ’70s, a teenager in the late ’80s, and spent my 20s mostly in the ’90s. Back then, pubes were king—full bushes were the norm. Honestly, I never thought about shaving or trimming because no one did. Getting pubes was like a rite of passage. Every young guy looked forward to them, and once you got them, you just kept them. It wasn’t even a topic of conversation; it was just how it was.

Then suddenly, in the late ’90s and 2000s, this idea started creeping in that being hairy down there wasn’t “right” or that it looked bad. And once people started shaving or trimming, it’s like the expectation shifted. It seems like you couldn’t appreciate the full bush anymore because it wasn’t what most people wanted to see.

So I’m wondering: for those of us who grew up in that era, what made some of us start trimming or shaving? Was it to look cool? To look younger? To make your dick look bigger? Did sexual partners start expecting it? Or did you find it was more comfortable or better in some way? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
No trim, no shave here. I’m blond/titian - as in a touch of ginger - and I discovered most guys went crazy over that. 😉 As for me, love fur, black fur especially. 🤤

Back in the 70's and 80's a bush was something to be proud of. Now? I trim the pubes a bit only because if I don't I get scraggly scrub growth, not a forest. Shaft is really hairy so I shave that with an electric. I trim or shave my balls because if I dont, it's more scrub growth like my pubes. If my balls actually got furry, I'd let it grow.

I grew up in an era where having pubic hair (both men and women) was expected. My preference never changed with the times. I’ve always been proud of my bush and have never trimmed or shaved. My wife has a natural bush too.

For me Full Bush was the thing, hairy was the 70s haha,I still enjoy and prefer bush.

Use to tell folks this is way we have rat tail combs, brush it and then part it and tada!
Beautiful access to the love tunnel and the clit!

(Side note, first time as an adult getting with a gal who shaved i asked the What the Hell?? Seen trimmed and such but bald?! I was out for me that meant age issues. Luckily I got over that as it seemed women were going hairless, all over.

My main reason for trimming was at request of the lady I was with at the time and if using condoms (before the newer and bigger and better fits came out) to keep hair from getting rolled up and pulled out and screaming LoL.

Nowadays it's mainly to make sure I keep what red hair i have left as it moves into its white stage.

I grew up in the same era. The only time anyone ever trimmed up in those days was because of crabs. I still don't, I prefer the natural look.

Graduated high school in 1980 and was already shaving legs for cycling and pubes & torso for swimming at least on a seasonal basis if not longer. Most women liked it back then and even more through the 1980s & 90s. I've kept it shaved for partners who like me smooth and let it grow out for those who like more hair on a guy. At the very least I keep my bush & balls trimmed. So yeah I still do it on a regular basis. Lifetime habit.

There was a time later in my 20s when I stopped for a while and let it all grow out. When my family saw me in swim trunks they were stunned at how hairy I was even though my body hair is rather fine and doesn't look heavy. They just had never seen me that way, lol.
