And you though no one was above the law?? Guess AGAIN:

At Mueller Hearings, Republicans Assert Trump Is Above The Law | HuffPost

"House Republicans used their time with former special counsel Robert Mueller to undermine his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and argue that ... Donald Trump is above the law.

The Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel has long held that [Trump] cannot be indicted while in office. But Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee suggested during Mueller’s testimony on Wednesday that investigators should never have probed Trump’s conduct to begin with."

Elizabeth Warren Pushes Nancy Pelosi On Impeachment: 'Some Things Are Above Politics' | HuffPost

"Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Wednesday praised the NAACP for supporting the impeachment of ... Donald Trump and took a jab at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over her reluctance to do so.

“l understand that there are people who for political reasons say it’s not where we want to be. But my view is some things are above politics,” she said, prompting applause from the audience. “And one of them is our constitutional responsibilities to do what is right.”"

Schiff: It doesn't matter if Trump didn't commit a crime Rep. Adam Schiff said it doesn't matter whether the Trump campaign's contacts with Russia amount to a crime. To Schiff, they amount to something worse.

"House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on Wednesday said it doesn’t matter whether the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia or ... Trump’s attempts to obstruct special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation amounted to crimes. To Schiff, they amounted to something worse: “Disloyalty to country.”

A gentle mincing around the T WORD if ever there WAS on.

Seems Chairman Nadler has reportedly filed Articles in the Judiciary Committee for an impeachment inquiry. See: Microsoft Word - FINAL PETITION - FINAL PETITION.pdf though it remains to be seen where and how far that will get.

Meanwhile, yesterday, President Barack Obama, took to twitter, something he rarely does, to share thoughts on some of the recent actions of the asshole in the Oval Office. (My source for the excerpts below is the Daily Kos, a website I can read (and one not requiring I get a subscription or turn off private browsing mode in order to read it).

However it references the following link:

A letter from 148 black ex-Obama staffers: We stand with Ilhan Omar and stand against racism - The Washington Post

I've always been proud of what this team accomplished during my administration. But more than what we did, I'm proud of how they'™re continuing to fight for an America that'™s better.

We stand with congresswomen Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib, as well as all those currently under attack by [Individual 1], along with his supporters and his enablers, who feel deputized to decide who belongs here — and who does not. There is truly nothing more un-American than calling on fellow citizens to leave our country — by citing their immigrant roots, or ancestry, or their unwillingness to sit in quiet obedience while democracy is being undermined.

We refuse to sit idly by as racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia are wielded by
[Individual 1] and any elected official complicit in the poisoning of our democracy. We call on local, state and congressional officials, as well as presidential candidates to articulate their policies and strategies for moving us forward as a strong democracy, through a racial-equity lens that prioritizes people over profit.

The statesman Frederick Douglass warned, “The life of a nation is secure only while the nation is honest, truthful and virtuous.” This nation has neither grappled with nor healed from the horrors of its origins. It is time to advance that healing process now through our justice, economic, health and political systems.

Expect to hear more from us. We plan to leave this country better than we found it. This is our home.

Hmmm... about that last line, do you think they meant it like, "THIS is our home"... or "This IS our home".... or was it more like, "This is our HOME." Maybe ALL OF THE ABOVE, eh?

On fishing for MORE FISH, while dozens lay ROTTING IN THE SUN:

Robert Mueller gave the country everything necessary to show why Trump must be impeached

"... all that Mueller did was confirm that Donald Trump made multiple serious efforts to obstruct justice, interfered with witnesses, lied on his written responses to the special counsel, and engaged in support for illegal activity.

Along the way, Mueller reminded the nation that Trump’s campaign chair, campaign co-chair, personal attorney, national security advisor, and a pair of foreign policy specialists were all indicted and convicted.

And he reminded everyone that Russian interference in the 2016 election was extensive and extreme, and that Russia was not just planning to do the same thing in 2020, but is doing the same thing right now.

So, gee, it’s too bad Mueller didn’t have anything big to say.

Though Mueller was reluctant to break from the script and confirm things that were not in the report, one area where he did get energized was in the discussion of WikiLeaks.

Responding to Trump’s litany of praise for the site that paired with Russia to publish stolen documents, Mueller didn’t just stop at calling Trump’s actions “problematic,” but went on to say that Trump was providing “support for illegal activity.”

The media may not have gotten the moment that it wanted, but Robert Mueller definitely provided everything anyone could possibly want to begin an impeachment.

So it’s too bad Mueller was so hesitant, shaky, and failed to deliver. Because otherwise the media, and the Congress, might have to do something."

Trump’s Art Of Distraction | HuffPost

"Simmering underneath the public outrage over [trump's] attacks has been a conversation among journalists, political observers and pundits who are mulling over whether calling Trump a “racist” is accurate... an exhausting, pointless conversation that serves no true function...

This is, and has always been, about using distraction as a tool to create a dynamic that maintains white supremacy and the access white people have to power and profit.

Trump... does this very well.

His most cacophonous rants elicit... reactions from our predominantly white media landscape. Pearls are clutched. Audible gasps are made. Then time is wasted wringing our hands over surface-level remarks that do not matter nearly as much as the racist policies touted by his administration...

Euphemisms are used to carefully dodge calling blatant racism what it is...

black and brown journalists who have been speaking out against Trump and his racism since 2015... are routinely chastised for being “biased” and not sharing the broader media’s hesitation when they do.

This is intentional.

While we twiddle our thumbs over semantics — which, for the record, do often matter but are being distorted in this context due to the fact that Trump is a racist saying racist things —

  • brown children are being separated from their parents at the border.
  • He has denied immigrants of color the right to seek asylum.
  • He has imposed a travel ban on immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries.
  • He signed orders to advance the Keystone and Dakota pipelines, which could cause environmental damage to the Native American lands through which they run.
  • He has pursued options to further militarize the police.
  • More recently, [has] issued an executive order asking that the Census Bureau gather citizenship data based on administrative records and saying that “some states may want to draw state and local legislative districts based upon the voter-eligible population.”
  • This was after dropping an attempt to add a citizenship question to the Census.

It is on us to expose the fact that Trump has aggressively pursued policies that disenfranchise people of color.

It’s on us to reveal their faces and names, to show the world that this isn’t just talk ― this is about policy which has real effects on the lives of real people.

Trump is, to quote Morrison, one of the “old, old men … running institutions, governments, homes all over the world who need to believe in their racism and need to have the victims of racism concentrate all their creative abilities on them.”

It is not our duty... to get distracted and argue over what to call his racism, but to expose its roots.

The first step in that is calling it what it is and doing so honestly."

MANY Americans... REAL patriots... are on the FRONTLINE in the fight against HATE, RACISM, AND INTOLERANCE. And it's an INSPIRING THING TO SEE:

'Never again is now': Jewish activists shut down Wisconsin ICE office in act of civil disobedience

ScreenShot2019-08-01at1.05.06PM.png

"Nearly two dozen Jewish leaders were among the estimated 100 activists who on Thursday shut down a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in an act of civil disobedience. They had a clear message to send, not just to the Trump administration, but to everyone listening: Never again is now.

The action was part of a national wave of dozens of Jewish-led "Never Again" actions, Wisconsin immigrant rights advocacy group Voces de la Frontera said, “demanding the closure of the Trump administration's concentration camps at the border and permanent protection for undocumented immigrants and people seeking asylum.”"

MEANWHILE:

Baltimore church kicks Ben Carson off property as he holds press conference to defend Trump's racism

Ben Carson, as the sole African American still employed by Donald Trump, [that's spelled: "ASSHOLE"] was sent down to Baltimore in the hopes of softening the bigot in chief’s recent comments about the city and Rep. Elijah Cummings.

The Trump family’s historic racism, connected directly to inner city housing and slumlord antics in places like Baltimore and New York City, is no secret to anyone willing to do the bare minimum of research.

And anyone trying to defend Trump’s racist comments about anything is going to go down like a lead balloon—which is exactly what happened to HUD director Carson.

A Majority Of House Democrats Now Back Impeachment Inquiry For Donald Trump | HuffPost'

More than half of the House Democratic caucus supports opening an impeachment inquiry into ... Donald Trump.

The number of House Democrats calling for an impeachment inquiry reached 118 with the support of Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.) on Friday, and now includes more than half of the 235-person Democratic caucus.

(Other news outlets have previously reported that a majority of House Democrats supported an impeachment inquiry. HuffPost has only been counting explicit and open calls for an inquiry, and not hedged statements that a member would support impeachment under certain conditions. The majority threshold for those had not been reached until now.)

and LEST WE FORGET:

The Enemy is TRUMP. The 2020 Election is a Referendum on TRUMP. Let's All Remember These Facts.

AN op-ed from the Kos:

"Yes, I realize that feelings get intense during primary battles. But it was dismaying to read about the extent to which President Obama was criticized at a DEMOCRATIC debate. And it is dismaying to see the kind of attacks from within the party that some are making on our potential nominees. As I said, I know feelings get intense. But I think some of us need reminding:

OUR ENEMIES ARE DONALD TRUMP, MITCH McCONNELL, AND ALL OF TRUMP’S ENABLERS IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

There is only one question on the 2020 ballot:

Do you approve or disapprove of Donald Trump?

Everything else rests on that outcome. If you do NOT approve, there is only one alternative open to you: VOTE DEMOCRATIC FOR EVERY OFFICE ON THE BALLOT."

... couldn't have put it better myself.

Obama responds to El Paso and Dayton like a real president should
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...-Paso-and-Dayton-like-a-real-president-should
[excerpt:]

"... all of us have to send a clarion call and behave with the values of tolerance and diversity that should be the hallmark of our democracy.

We should soundly reject language coming out of the mouths of any of our leaders that feeds a climate of fear and hatred or normalizes racist sentiments; leaders who demonize those who don’t look like us, or suggest that other people, including immigrants, threaten our way of life, or refer to other people as sub-human, or imply that America belongs to just one certain type of people.

Such language isn’t new – it’s been at the root of most human tragedy throughout history, here in America and around the world.

It is at the root of slavery and Jim Crow, the Holocaust, the genocide in Rwanda and ethnic cleansing in the Balkans. It has no place in our politics and our public life.

And it’s time for the overwhelming majority of Americans of goodwill, of every race and faith and political party, to say as much – clearly and unequivocally."

Man Wears ‘Make Racism Wrong Again’ T-Shirt, Gets Dozens Of ‘Dirty Looks’ – Economy Chat
https://economy-chat.com/index.php/...ong-again-t-shirt-gets-dozens-of-dirty-looks/
Make-racism-wrong-again-2.jpg

"A man who wore a ‘Make Racism Wrong Again’ t-shirt and hat to his local Walmart store admitted he received ‘so many’ dirty looks while doing so. Jamal Lewis, who lives in Western Pennsylvania, bought the clothing from Amazon and decided to wear it in public after experiencing a ‘large amount of open in-your-face racism in the area.

The 48-year-old said he had never experienced so much racism before, despite living in several different places before that and travelling all over the country and outside the country.

The t-shirt and cap, which are available to buy from Amazon ... are in response to Donald Trump’s MAGA campaign slogan which has now become so much more than a slogan.

The Truth Shall Set You Free:

Beto O'Rourke Flatly Calls Trump A White Supremacist On Live TV | HuffPost

"Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke called ... Trump a white supremacist during a live interview in El Paso, Texas, ahead of [Trump's] visit to the city after a deadly mass shooting that appeared to target Hispanic people.

Asked on Wednesday by MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff whether Trump is a white supremacist, O’Rourke said, without hesitation, “He is.”

“He’s also made that very clear,” O’Rourke continued. “He’s dehumanized or sought to dehumanize those who do not look like or pray like the majority here in this country.”

. . .

Joe Biden's anti-Trump speech today

"Biden made the case that Trump fundamentally doesn’t understand the job:

“Trump offers no moral leadership; seems to have no interest in unifying this nation, no evidence the presidency has awakened his conscience in the least. “Indeed we have a [w.h. occupant] with a toxic tongue who has publicly and unapologetically embraced a political strategy of hate, racism and division.”

America is an idea” — not great because we have the biggest economy or military or because we “win.” The essence of America is its creed. “Everyone knows who Donald Trump is. We need to show them who we are."

and

Farmers confront Trump's ag secretary: 'We are not doing great again'

by Alduous J. Pennyfarthing - DailyKos Community:

"Apparently, the metric shit-ton of manure Donald Trump spread over the Midwest while running for [w.h. occupant] has not materially improved the outlook for the region’s farmers.

They’re worried, anxious, and increasingly pissed off, as Trump’s agriculture secretary, Sonny Perdue, learned today during a panel discussion at a fair in rural Minnesota.

And, more and more, they’re questioning Trump’s policy prescriptions, which recently prompted China to suspend all U.S. agricultural imports.

Being from the Midwest myself, I feel genuinely sorry for these folks. Their stories of financial hardship in the wake of Trump’s tariff madness are truly heartbreaking.

Then again, this is one of the clumsiest own goals in history. After all, they were instrumental in putting this ambulant sack of cow shit in the White House."

The Truth Shall Set You Free (part Deux):

From the Guy who coined "Moscow Mitch" -- we get this Blunt call-out of Trump's Corporate Donors

MNSBC host Joe Scarborough said Monday that ... Trump’s reelection campaign donors are funding white supremacy.

“[Trump] never tones down his rhetoric. In fact, for those of you who are funding Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, you may want to take note that because you keep writing checks to [Trump] it’s on you, it really is, because you are funding this white supremacist campaign,” Scarborough said on "Morning Joe." "

see: Top 10 Donors to the Trump Campaign (FB, WWE)

"The former Republican congressman called out the “CEOs,” “business people,” “millionaires and billionaires” who are donating to Trump despite what Scarborough said are continued white supremacist attacks by [him].

It’s your money that is funding this white supremacy because you won't tell him to stop. You won’t tell him 'talk about the economy and I’ll write you a check, keep up the white supremacist attacks and I’m gonna ask for a refund,'” he said.

“Why is that? Are you a white supremacist? Does your company support white supremacy? Does a corporation that you run, do they support white supremacy? Because the attacks and the attempts continue.”"

. . .

Joe Biden Says Everything Trump's Done 'Encourages White Supremacists' | HuffPost

"Asked at the Iowa State Fair whether [Trump] is a white supremacist himself, Biden, who is challenging Trump in the 2020 election, said: “I believe everything [Trump] has done encourages white supremacists and I don’t know there’s much of a distinction. And as a matter of fact, it may be even worse.”

“So whether he is or is not a white supremacist, he encourages them in everything he does,” Biden went on. “He speaks to them.”"

. . .

Elizabeth Warren's 'honest answer': Donald Trump is a white supremacist

"Donald Trump is a white supremacist, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke are perfectly willing to explain that to any doubters.

A day after she answered that question with an unhesitating yes, Warren got the question again. Is Trump a white supremacist? “I was asked the question and I gave an honest answer,” she told NBC News. (That answer was yes.)

“He is a man who cozies up to ... white supremacists and he calls them ‘fine fellows,’ he's talked about trying to get brown people and black people out of this country,” Warren said.

“This is what he's done, the wink and the nod, and he can't have it both ways. He can't keep trying to stir this up, give aid and comfort, be embraced by ... white supremacists and then say, ‘ah, but not me,’

no. He is responsible."

THINGS THAT MAKE U GO 'HMMMMMMM'

William Barr and the Death of Jeffrey Epstein

by Andy Schmookler, Daily Kos community (EXCERPTS):

I've long been leary of the frequent practice of holding high officials responsible for things that go wrong many levels below them in the agency of which they are in charge.... It's not reasonable to blame someone in charge of a huge operation for everything bad that happens.

Thoughts of this sort came to me briefly the other day when I heard commentators of the anti-Trump variety calling attention to how Jeffrey Epstein's suicide took place under the auspices of Metropolitan Correction Center, that falls under the auspices of the federal Bureau of Prisons, which is part of the Department of Justice, all of which is headed by William Barr.

But then I remembered what Barr did upon Epstein's arrest. At first he recused himself -- for a couple of good reasons -- and then the next day he un-recused himself.

With that act, Barr made an issue about how the Epstein matter was going to be his responsibility. His dance about recusal made the issue of the responsibility of the ... Attorney General for what would happen with Epstein much different than had it been some random event several levels down on the organizational chart.

Barr declared to the nation, in effect: "This is my baby." Way more than the usual case, Barr took ownership of this one.

Which means several things.

First, it means that Barr's recent efforts to blame the people down the chart -- based on what we don't know -- won't wash. If he was determined to be in charge, he certainly is obligated to acknowledge that a chunk of the buck stops on his desk.

Second, when we combine that with what we already know about Barr's lack of integrity, lack of honesty, willingness to sacrifice truth to benefit a lawless [Trump], it means that we have every reason to distrust whatever we would find out from a DOJ that is run by this man, with his proven willingness to obstruct justice.

Rather, we can trust him to tell us the truth if the truth does no damage to himself or to his boss.

But we cannot trust him to allow us to learn if either he or Trump played any less than a kosher role in this whole death of an inmate of unusual prominence, known to have long-standing connections with powerful people, including [Trump], who -- we don't know -- may have been co-conspirators in the child-sex-trafficking crimes for which Jeffrey Epstein was likely to spend the rest of his life in jail...

And in OTHER NEWS:

Kamala Harris: Trump Was 'Tweeting Out The Ammunition' For El Paso Shooter | HuffPost

"Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) delivered a powerful condemnation of Donald Trump’s racist rhetoric on Saturday, again linking it to last week’s El Paso, Texas, shooting in which a gunman targeted Mexicans, killing 22 people and injuring dozens more.

“People say to me, ‘Did Donald Trump cause those folks to be killed?’ Well, no, of course he didn’t pull the trigger, but he’s certainly been tweeting out the ammunition...”

I get the political posturing, but when are we as a society going to get off the finger pointing / blame game and hold people directly accountable for their actions? Rather than looking for ways to unite us against these acts, they continue to divide us. This rhetoric is self-serving, and counter-productive.

I get the political posturing, but when are we as a society going to get off the finger pointing / blame game and hold people directly accountable for their actions? Rather than looking for ways to unite us against these acts, they continue to divide us. This rhetoric is self-serving, and counter-productive.
And yet, you never criticize the divisive rhetoric emanating from the President........

Meh. You missed my point. He says what he wants. You should know that by now. I’m not taking sides here. What I don’t approve of is the posturing to connect him, or anyone, to these acts for political gain. These individuals who commit these crimes need to be held accountable for their own actions.

As I said, it is self-serving, counter-productive, and only further divides.

I do know that by now. And yet not a peep from you on the divisive political rhetoric of the President. You dismiss it as,"He says what he wants." You've taken a side.

I made a comment. I appreciate you would like to reel me into your conversation. But your argument is not what I’m talking about. You continue to miss my point about using these acts for political gain.
