This discussion originated with my wife: I'm not as deeply involved in politics as she is, but the outline goes as follows:

If you have a car, which can be a big clunky object, and dangerous, you have to have insurance for it.

Therefore, if you own a gun, which can be a dangerous object, you should need to have an insurance policy for it.

Because you never know when something wrong will happen, and the liability lies with the owner. If the gun gets stolen, it becomes a massive liability. Or an accident causes it to discharge, hitting someone.

I'll sit back for a few moments...

:veryhappy::veryhappy:Hmmm . . . clever idea! :veryhappy::veryhappy:The profits from insurance premiums could be used to underwrite the hospital costs of those shot by guns.:veryhappy::veryhappy:

Is it against the law for me to have 19" guns?

I do believe that's called a rifle, or a sawed off shotgun. Stick to current legalities and you'll be fine...

Yeah, like ZOS23xy said, review what is and what is not considered a legal firearm. My brother spent a week in the pokey after being pulled over for a traffic violation and the city police discovered a missile canon in the trunk of his car. He still maintains it was an innocent "hobby" firearm.

The problem is that the Second Amendment doesn't restrict firearms on the basis of who has insurance or not. Cars are not a right in the Constitution of the U.S. I argue that any law which restricts firearm ownership is illegal under the Second Amendment. If you can carry it then you have a right to own it. This business of area restrictions (like schools) and what types of firearms can be owned is ridiculous and dangerous because it detracts from the authority of the Constitution. Either the Amendment should be amended or rescinded or the Constitution should be enforced as stated.

More than likely, the courts would strike down an insurance requirement. It would keep the poor from having their second amendment rights.
Obama can't pass a single law. Not one. So you need to find another issue than him outlawing guns.

Any liability for the gun owner would be covered by homeowner's policy and then possibly by an umbrella policy in place to protect other assets. If the gun were to go missing, gun owner would only be held liable for damages if he/she had been negligent-i.e. leaving the gun on a playground, unlocked car, public place, etc.

I am sure there are a ton of case briefs on this very subject.

Guns don't kill people. STUPID people with guns kill people. We are WAY past the point of "putting the cat back in the bag" as far as gun control is concerned.

ROFLMAO!!! THAT is NOT a "hobby" firearm!! That is a "let's take over Equador for the weekend" firearm!!

You would DARE to take away another person's freedom to defend themselves against someone like yourself who wants to take away ANY freedom from them, however small or large?? And HOW do you suggest they defend themselves when faced with a serious threat, like a home invasion? Throw little pickles at them??

You realize that wanting to take away any freedoms every American has and enjoys makes you thoroughly UN-American? What you don't realize is that if guns are taken away, those former gun owners are going to take something major away from you.

    How about this?
Gun control = hit what you aim for.
All gun owners must pass a conceal/carry class.
All gun owners must practice monthly.

And if we do that, we might as well do this:
Cell phones are not allowed to be used in motor vehicles. They must be off, or the car won't start.
The car must be equipped with it's own cell phone that can ONLY be used to dial 911.

    Sound fair?

    EXACTLY right.

Don't fall for it, EagleCowboy. FaceQueen typed that nonsense just to start another potential flame war. Nobody in government is ever going to try and repeal the Second Amendment.

i'm not in favor of everyone owning a gun ,

i'm just in favor of everyone having the right to own one. and here's why:

most people don't have the mental acuity to handle a firearm, but the last thing you want to do is threaten to take away their rights, that would only incentivize them to go out and buy one. look what happened to gun sales right before the election when the NRA announced that obama was repealing the 2nd amendment on jan 20.

Guns are equalizers and are personal tools of detente between us and the criminals among us and a govt. that would otherwise go ape shit on our asses.

If we have a problem with guns it is because gangs are not treated like the terrorist organizations that they are. If we have to have something like the Patriot Act then use it to open a can of whop ass on the Bloods, Crips, Maratrucha, Aryan Brotherhood or whatever.

Did you all know that every male in Switzerland is required to have an assault rifle in their homes in order to protect the country? WTF, those among us who can't act like a Swiss in this has to be re-educated or gotten rid of somehow.

Sort of. I have homeowners Ins. But it never occurred to me that there was an umbrella clause (mostly because I don't have guns). So now i know. Just searching.

I live in an area where there is quite a bit of hunting. So much so at certain points of the year I don't go knocking down the deer stands until its Sunday.
