Everybody Loves Raymond

I did not discover the show till it was in reruns, but it and its characters grew on me. There is a dynamic between Ray and His wife Debra. He loves and fears her; and she loves him , while thinking he is an idiot. Many of the episodes we have Ray asking for sex and him being turned down by Debra, yet he is back the next episode with love in his eyes asking yet again. Side note they have a family, bills and a house to take care of so the wife is usually tired.

The reason I am posting is that he represents a lot of guys I know

Everybody but me lol! The constant message of Ray's an idiot, Ray's an idiot, Ray's an idiot did not appeal to me. Nor did the larger message that men are idiots. They couldn't wrap it in enough humor to hide the sexism.

TBS plays a few hours of the show each morning including weekends . Just get up early @Catharsis
Unfortunately I already wake up early on the weekends, however involuntarily. Alas, no cable.

I personally liked Marie and Frank. They had quite a different interaction as a couple.

I love the entire dysfunctionality of the family.

Marie and Frank, in many ways remind me of my own parents

Interesting, I've never really watched the show with that mindset.

I love the entire dysfunctionality of the family.

Yes, I think this is part of what made it so entertaining for me.

I've never seen it. Maybe that's because the title had the L word...
Exy! We all love you anyway so get used to the L word.

I’ve actually never seen the show but I recently watched Ray Romano’s standup special on Netflix and it was pretty good. Pretty much the same schtick: he’s a horny idiot, his wife is smart and shrewish, his kids are crazy and stupid. That style of humor isn’t entirely to my taste or relatable to my particular lifestyle, but he’s good at what he does and always comes across as an affable and likeable dude.

My mother and I watched it together for its whole run. Occasionally she would turn to me and say "I hope I'm not like that..." when Marie did something overbearing. I think my favorite lines were from the episode where Marie takes up sculpting and makes a rather... yonic piece of art which eventually they try to give to a church and the nun who refuses it is the first person to tell her what she thinks it looks like (in an unheard whisper). Marie turns to the camera and says "my God, I'm a lesbian."

Frank: I was in the supermarket, and one of those fruit guys...
Marie: They're called homosexuals, Frank.
