OnlyFans said Thursday that it will ban sexually explicit content from its platform, shocking smut-obsessed users of the wildly popular photo and video-selling site.

The company said nude photos and videos will still reportedly be allowed if they meet the company’s new guidelines — but “sexually explicit content” will not be allowed under new rules taking effect on Oct. 1.

“OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually-explicit conduct,” the company said in a statement to The Post. “Creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy.”

OnlyFans declined to elaborate on its definition of “sexually explicit,” and was stingy with specifics on why it’s making the surprise pivot away from porn. But the company said the move was necessary to “comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers.”

“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” the company added.

Not sure what it implies. I assume sexual acts are going to be banned, but solo nudes won't. Wanting to go public/IPO/get major investment will push them into this corner.

I have mixed thoughts on this.

On one hand, the ongoing purge of porn on the internet has me fearing more is on the way. Secondly, the potential loss of scores of content (there isn't a quick and convenient way to download off there) is troubling. And additionally, while I'd have to read up more on the subject, I am concerned that porn is continuing to be treated as some immoral act that needs to be shunned. Quite simply, it pays people's bills for people that desperately need financial help.

On the other hand, I've never been hugely into OF. There is some good content on there, put out by people who actually care about giving a quality product to their customers. But for everyone with a good OF, there are probably scores of people seeking to make maximum profit off minimal input. OF superfans will say it was good because it put more money into the models pocket and gave them creative control, but that's not the point. Who wants to watch some brief clip with a partner whose face I can't see, shot by a jerky camera when I can watch polished, edited, quality porn by people with experience doing so? I've never quite understood why it took over the industry and I won't be overly depressed when it's gone.

Is it a purge if studios still exist because they manage to adhere to strict standards laid out by CC companies and state laws? Onlyfans dying out leaves 4myfans and justforfans. And then there's the upcoming Peach.com from the people at CB, Frisk, Fansly, Manyvids, etc the list goes on of networks that allow porn.

The fact of the matter is the pornhub purge happened because mindgeek was hosting a lot of questionable material and were dealing with illegal material. A nuclear approach worked for them. Onlyfans did the bare minimum of verification and making sure things were kosher. Onlyfans works through CCBill operating under Fenix International. 99% of the other sites including SFW as well as porn studios utilize CC Bill.

I sincerely doubt they didn't have assurances from their banking partners in the first place. Fansly, justforfans et al. all use the same billing intermediary and don't hook directly into VISA or Mastercard. This was, in my opinion, a wild gamble to become the next Patreon, but even bigger.

The banks hardly give a shit where the money comes from. They don't balk at having to launder cartel and mafia money so why would they balk at porn money? They've already done it for decades.
