Answer as many of the poll responses as apply....I am super curious how other relationships work.

As for my partner and myself - we have been together 14 years

We began Monogamous for the first 7 years
At the 7 year mark we crossed to Closeted Open Relationship
At the 9 year mark we moved to Open Relationship (both participating with others) and Open Relationship (not discussing our extra-curricular activities with each other)

Am a little confused by the "monogamous (you or your partner may play on the side...)" option. That sounds more like an open relationship, or at least somewhat open.

My husband and I have been together for 26 years and are monogamous. One of us strayed at the 17-year mark. Way too complicated to get into, but ultimately we worked through it and have continued to remain monogamous.

My husband and I have an open relationship. It took some work to get on the same page about what was acceptable and what was not. There were some arguments and misunderstandings along the way, but it works for us. If I'm not at home, he will text me to let me know someone is coming over. If I'm home he will ask me if I mind if someone comes over. Only once have I told him no because we had something planned that day and it was something we had been working on for a while. I told him I wasn't willing to interrupt our plans for it. He agreed and rescheduled. I give him the same courtesy. The difference is that I'm not willing to have someone over when he's at home, so either I go out or do it when he's not at home. I do this because he's pretty fast to cum so his encounters are quick. I'll just go into the office and close the door. No one needs to know I'm even here. I like my encounters to be longer and I don't get off really quick. I don't want him to be hanging out doing nothing when he could be doing something he wants to, so I either go out for sex or maybe do it late at night when he's already asleep. I still give him the courtesy of letting him know it's happening before he goes to bed. No matter what happens with who, we still sleep next to each other at night.

I prefer monogamous relationships because of the fact I like my partners to breed me.

I have been in relationships where we play with others but always under the same roof and always protected.

I am in now wit my wife (although with the complication of it now being non-sexual) “Monogamous (you openly affirm this to each other and believe it is true)”.
My relationship before this was “Open Relationship (you both are in agreement and only one of you participates with others)” as we had an agreement that my girlfriend would have the freedom to see other men sexually, but I would not.

I am in a happy open relationship. Been together for 8 years. We mostly do threesomes, though. I'm the driving force, but he certainly doesn't mind me finding hot guys to meet :D

I think that it's horrible that the society promotes jealousy. Scandinavia is slowly getting better and better at accepting non-monogamous relationships, fortunately.
