Open Showers at the Gym

Yes, I know there are multiple threads on this. But more specifically,
does anybody else go to a specific gym because there are open showers there?

I'm not asking this in a creepy way, I just always seem to strike up more conversation on the actual gym floor when I've seen them naked in the showers!
For me, open showers just allow more freedom after/before a day at the desk!

Yep, one of the main reasons I stay at my gym.

And before anyone jumps on the "perv wagon", there's very very few that I have enjoyed a peek at. More, what I would consider, "below average in appearance" than anything.

It's just as you said, the openess and freedom aspect.

I'll admit that if I went to a gym specifically because it had open showers, it would be to check out guys. However, I understand what you mean about wanting open showers for other reasons. I recently went to a spa/bathhouse for the first time. It was mostly gender-mixed so you had to wear something, but there where also baths, saunas and open showers in the gender-segregated locker room areas and you had to be nude to use them. I thought it was amazing to see so many different types of men (and even a couple of children) all comfortably naked together. It wasn't entirely a sexual feeling I had there, it was like i was feeling connected with the animal inside of us. So many of us humans are incredibly cut off from nature, and there was something so natural about bathing with bunch of other nude humans.

Yes! I do look for gyms that have open showers because I find they attract a far friendlier and more laid back clientele than gyms do that offer ultra priavacy. In my experience, the more privacy offered, the more uptight and unfriendly the members tend to be. I too have struck up many conversatioons with other guys when we are naked in the shower, hot tub and steam room. In fact, I made another new acquaintance today in the steam room and shower at my Y. I too like the freedom after a day at work. It's natural to be nude. Guys let their guards down when they are naked, and are far friendlier to each other.

Exact same at my Y. I would say that over 90% of the guys I see naked there are old and overweight. There is nothing attractive about them at all. I do like the fact though that they are comfortable with themselves and not resorting to any silly modesty antics. I got really fed up with that at my university. The guys there were nicer to look at, but I got irritated by their towel dancing, showering with clothes on, etc. Because they were clearly uncomfortable with being nude around other guys, it made me feel uncomfortable as well. The crazy thing is that there are stalls available at my university as well as open Bradley shower towers. When I was a student there, it was all open showers and no one gave a shit about being naked around other guys. More modesty has been offered in the shower room now, and it is practically empty! I remember about 2 years ago (when I was still working out there), the only showers working for a couple of weeks were the Bradleys. I thought that since there were no stalls available, I would be the only one in there because I prefer the Bradleys. To my surprise, lots of young guys were using the Bradleys. Why they ever put those stalls in is beyond me! They are absolutely filthy and mouldy.

Well said Zipp. There's a sense of bonding. This is something that's evident at a nude beach which is why I visit regularly. It's a great feeling to be nude with others....and have nothing to hide. It's even more amazing when there are women who "get it" as well.

If I only knew ... My body and mind just go into panic mode.
I think it's memories from my teens. The bad thing is that it would get easier to do, if I only did it a bit more often. I hope I will get my ass to the bath house more regularly from now on. They have done some major renovations and modernizations since I went there last time, many years ago.

During my teens, showering (primarily in school, after gym class) was an utter nightmare. Having a halted puberty is something I wish on no man. I feel my main reason for being here is to convince myself that guys who are bigger don't resent the guys who happen to be smaller. Knowing that would unspool a lot of mental anguish accumulated during my teens. Of course, I know that there are no agreed upon rules for this, and each individual can have his own way of looking at things.

Hmm... Perhaps you should just bite the bullet & start going regularly. Hopefully that'll prove to you that you've got nothing to be self conscious about and start to resolve the hang-ups that have stuck with you from being a teenager.

Don't think bigger guys resent smaller ones, per se. Everyone (except for the recently banned shudder69) has things about themselves that they feel conscious about & would like to change, be it penis size, height, weight, muscle mass, education, job, whatever... So next time you're at the bath house, remember that when you're thinking about whether someone has a bigger dick, other people are wishing they were your height or for some other aspect of who you are. And you've got a bigger than average dick, anyway, so don't worry about that. If you want to make it look bigger, have a trim & do some specific work to reduce the depth of the pubic fat pad... Sorted!

I don't know that I'd go to a gym because it had open showers, but the whole shower stall thing weirds me out. It feels like showering in a public shitter, to be honest; like they just ripped out the toilet and slapped a shower head on the ceiling. Also, I start feeling really body conscious when I see individual stalls. I feel like they carry with them a subliminal message that we should hide our bodies from each other. That also weirds me out.

I kinda feel the same way about the stalls. Even tho my gym is nice and the locker room well designed, I too am not 100% comfortable with this setup, and it is like showering in a shitter. LOL

I'm an average sized guy and open showers help put to rest any anxieties about your genitals or other parts of your body because you realize that we're all different, yet the same, if that makes sense! If the only guys you've ever seen naked are guys in porn, and you're feeling a bit body conscious, a communal shower is the best place for you LOL!

I will bite the bullet come monday. I will go to donate blood, and go to the bath house to relax and recoup. Maybe a sauna, and a quick swim, and then grabbing a recliner and reading a book for an hour or so, getting used to the atmosphere.

It makes perfect sense. One of the great things about seeing other regular humans naked is that it makes you realize how very normal you really are. (In a good way, of course.)

At the Y I belong to the men's lockerroom has open showers right off the sauna and steamroom. You can see everything that goes on in the showers and sauna and steamroom. The two massage rooms are off the showers too but those have doors on them. Some guys like their massages with the door open some like them closed. Of course you have to be atleast 18 to use this lockerroom and you do pay a little more in the way of dues. Of course if a boy is atleast 16 and with his dad, he too can use the men's lockerroom.
