Dividers with no curtainsDoes anyone know if Nuffield Wimbledon actually has open showers?
Was in oasis this morning for an outdoor swim. First time there and yes there are communal showers. A few naked guys but nothing too interesting. I enjoyed the nudity and turned a few heads. Most interesting was the pool. Had a great swim.
Recently joined Fitness First. The Strand is pretty active especially on Saturday lunch time. The one in Holborn has potential but people seem more reserved. Anyone going? Are there other FF gyms where to have some sauna-showers fun?
I use London Bridge and Cottons. LB has a small sauna in the shower area, Cottons is shared steam and sauna with women.Recently joined Fitness First. There's the Oasis in Holborn which is on the edge of Covent Garden - if you walk to the other end of Endell Street (from Long Acre). Has 25m indoor and outdoor (heated all year) pool. Open showers - they can be rather cruisey and some too obvious It's fully open to the lockers and changing area.
thanks @steamyman for the recommendation. I got round to trying out Holborn Oasis this morning.
The outdoor pool is super - something really amazing for the heart of London. It was very busy, so exercise was just swimming lengths at the pace of the slowest. The locker room and showers are indeed open, which is a welcome change from the dreaded changing village. It’s actually possible to get clean after a swim. A downside is the level of automation, where in effect the only way to use it as a one off (not a member) is to book and prepay online and enter with a bar code on a mobile phone. The bar code reader seems very bad at actually reading bar codes, so it is automation that doesn’t work properly.
Glad you enjoyed the swim - hope the sights in the showers were good! I agree about the app - it's a pain in the arse to us - and their customer service is terrible. I must get back for a swim there soon though.![]()
Any good recommendations for central London for a swim and a sauna or steam? Will need todo pay as you go. Is the better oasis’s the best one to use - Looking at heading Monday mid morning.
Thanks for this Shame to hear the sauna is closed - any other suggestions at all? ThanksHOLBORN OASIS
ADVANTAGES
* very special outdoors pool. Definitely worth experiencing.
* old fashioned open locker room and showers, so no grubby changing village.
DISADVANTAGES
* grubby
* sauna closed
* the reality of a busy pool is that you lane swim at the speed of the slowest in your lane. Weekday mornings tend to be an older clientele.
* has to be pre-booked. Entry only with Q code on phone. Scanner on entry doesn’t work properly. No payment at the door. (I suppose you could go online and make a booking for the next ten minute entry slot).
* price for one off use is okay but not a bargain. 20p non refundable for locker, and you do need a 20p coin - no cash handled by the gym.
I will be back as it is a remarkable outdoor pool and in a location which is convenient for me, but Camden Council should be ashamed of the grime and the general sense of tattyness.
