One of the few things I will fight my siblings over is my mother's records. She had the NBC Symphony Orchestra with Rise Stevens, Jan Pierce, and Robert Merrill on a special edition of La Traviata celebrating the 50th anniversary of Verdi's death. It was conducted by Arturo Toscanini himself.

One of the greatest singers to derail their career was Lawrence Tibbett. In his early days, he was one of the foremost baritones, and he sang pops too. His personal problems led to major drinking, and it damaged his voice. He was a pretty good actor too. He was great at funny parts. I can't help but wonder if his dad's murder when he was 7, had anything to do with it.

Got any Lawrence Tibbett?
