Organ Donation..

Here in the U.K a worrying development has occured regarding what happens to an individuals body when they die.For some reason Parliament has decreed that it no longer permissible for people to be able THEMSELVES to opt into organ donation, but instead it is for legislators to decree that unless you other state, your organs WILL be used for transplant.I for one regard this as sinister and that for the state to assume this role is worrying indeed.

That is indeed troubling. If you don't have control over your own body, what do you have control over?

I've seen this movie, it doesn't end well for the donors.

Seriously though, here in the colonies, much is made of bodily autonomy. It's the basis for abortion rights laws in some states. I'm curious how that works across the pond?

Anyone can opt out of organ donation by selecting the option when obtaining government ID, right?

If ya dead body means that much to you make an informed choice while still breathing. *shrug* Really, all that is required of anyone is making a mark on a paper they are already filling out.

ETA: there are all kinds of laws about body disposal. This law actually does a good one for the still living. Ya know, other than the living who make bank gouging grieving family members tens of thousands of dollars to turn ya former meat suit into a toxic bomb of decay and chemicals to be artfully stuffed into a box ir a furnace.

Splitting hairs, but...not breathing in any meaningful sense. And not you, either.

Organ harvesting in ideal conditions would be when the donor's respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems have stopped working on their own, but the dead body's respiration and circulation are being artificially maintained.

The person is dead. Nobody is home, even though the AC and plumbing are still running, for now, until the utilities are shut off.

But even with artificial support, organs still start to lose viability, albeit more slowly than an unsupported cadaver. But an organ in less than ideal condition is still better than the failed one the recipient has now.
