Batten down the hatches, Petals and wait for the retaliation.

His grave will now be a rallying point and a site of homage and pilgrimage for the non-moderates.

I agree that retaliation is a real possibility. I should hope that, at the very least, his death will be a warning toward those who thought him immortal. Allah was not on his side.

The fall of many of the middle-east's most oppressive regimes also signals a change in the attitudes of the people of that region. It removes a breeding ground for the grief and suffering that grooms angry young men, ripe for the pickings of Al Qaida. I'm hopeful for a change for the better.

I'm glad it's over, and I'm glad for Obama. It looks good for him and his presidency. But I still don't think it will change much in the fanatic US hating middle eastern mind. Ah well, it's still good news!

Gotta admit though, I'm watching the live stream of Al Jazeera English right now and they're showing a bunch of video from in front of the White House where tons of people are jumping up and down and chanting "USA! USA!"

Even if we can all agree that Bin Laden is an evil man, this is not the images we need to be seeing right now. Just because he is dead doesn't mean the complete dismantling of Al Qaeda and the end of terrorism either. If the goal is to finally end military actions in the Middle East, the last thing we need to do is agitate the very people who would want to retaliate. But that's just me.

A huge thank you to the U.S. Armed Forces! For all the sacrifices and battles we don't see; killing Bin Laden may be mainly symbolic at this point, but it's still excellent news!

Right on! Cracking down on these atrocities all over the world, including another terror cell breakup in Germany this weekend:

Germany terror arrests tip of the iceberg? - World news - Terrorism - msnbc.com

Even with the cautions, insecurities and fears of further acts of terror, this is excellent news and a huge boost for Obama

Even a symbolic victory, is still something the USA needed, I think! It took a long time, yes, but the USA always gets their man!!!

It's a fair point, but having seen both I think that often times the 'celebratory mood' we see in the mid east sometimes leans more to flag burning than the flag waving we are seeing outside the white house. Very different inspiration it seems just in the way they gather and the common threads that unite people on the day.

You guys should be proud, but it can't get macabre or ghoulish. That kind of thing that gets inflammatory over there. just my 2 cents.

This is going to be and incredible morale booster. Hopefully we can grow closer and more united as a nation because of this. But remember people Al Qeada is not a hierarchy, it's a network. This will definitely crush his supporters but also outrage them. Steadfastness is key.

And in response to previous posts this does not mean US troops will come home we are there for different reasons at this time.

Dave Gergen just made a great point on CNN, it is a great example of Mr. Obama's operation of national defense really, and he used a 13days analogy about JFK. That was the longest a secret could stay just that. A pretty tight group of smart tacticians lasted 6 weeks with GOOD intel. Great sign. Sounds like a tight ship. Serious appreciation for Mr. Obama's work so far right now, from my humble Canadian hands. Congrats guys.

Canada will so buy you a beer.

I think Al Queda is finished, but it isn't because Osama Bin Laden is dead, the peoples
uprising all over the middle east has made Al Queda irrelevant. Most Arabs don't care about him or AQ now - even Ghadafi uses AQ a a bogey man. What I wonder is why it took
so long to find someone lost in caves, protected by one AK-47 and some poorly armed body guards, who walks with sandels and a walking stick in the open, and needed dialysis to stay alive. What would upset the Arab world though if the US disrespected his body and his burial. Bet the US will give his body back to his paternal and fraternal family which are friends of the Bushes as I am sure you all know.
