YEah. it's ok.
The CEO of Cralyle's job is to figure out how to maximize return to stockholders, not maximize US tax receipts.

Pop quiz:

If you were the CEO and your CFO informed you of a way you could legally escape paying taxes , you would say:

A > HOW DARE YOU SIR, SUGGEST SUCH A THING!!!
B> Really, tell me more.

The problem is that pesky class in Ethics that people with business degrees had to sit through in college. When they get in the real world... they have to throw ethics out the window because there will be someone waiting to take their lunch who will if they won't. That is the problem with capitalism... it is the Temple of the Dollar. It is a natural thing I think, capitalism is simply natural selection playing itself out in modern society. The problem with natural things, is that animals destroying the babies of their competition is a natural thing... I mean lions snap the necks of Cheetah cubs every chance that they get... because there is competition for resources involved. Competition... what could possibly be wrong with competition? Capitalism is competition... the strongest survives... the survival of the fittest... it is natural selection pure and simple.

As man, we have been endowed with a peculiar ability that we have developed through evolution... it is the ability to feel emotionaly what others feel... empathy! Empathy allows us to look at the weak and feel their pain... it allows us to care for the elderly and heal the sick. Empathy is not a natural feeling, but it is an ability that humans have that clearly separates us from the animal kingdom. Shedding our animal ways is called evolution and to a greater extent... enlightenment. Bucking the desire to crush someone and cultivating the ability to actually empower others is one of the things that mankind must set out to do in order to survive on this planet.

You see what I am getting at right? Capitalism is a system that needs to be reformed if it is going to allow mankind to thrive and survive together. The model of the corporation with it's CEO's and CFO's, Board members that elect these financial officers, and stockholders that actually own the shares of the company that allow it to function, and that have complete ownership of the organization... is a disastrous one for mankind. Many of these stockholders rely on these dividends as a source of wealth. They put great pressure on the board members to elect officers that will push the said corporation to ever higher and higher profits out of pure greed. This is a model that is doomed to destroy our culture and civilization as we know it. There must be a better way... I am not advocating socialism or communism since those noble ideas have been polluted by the very evil and greed that the systems were designed to prevent.

The problem is that the world was run by warlords that gave birth to kings, and pharoahs who in turn gave birth to dukes, czars and counts. Those same families who ruled in their monarchies and their associated bloodlines are still around and still have access to great sums of wealth and power. Combine those people with the descendants of capitalist pioneers like J.P. Morgan and his like and you have a small portion of the world's population who owns the majority of the wealth. The descendants of these folk are the stockholders of today... they will wring every dollar out of society that they can get their hands on...

What to do with these people? What to do...

Ok, fair enough. You surprised me with that .
For whatever reason the words 'carlyle group' and ' Exxon -Mobil profits" cause knee-jerk spasms among the left that cause them to spout the most illogical nonsense.

But I don't see any evidence that this corporation has bypassed any laws.

Even Chuckie Schumer wasn't phases by it.

I am angry a lot, but hopefully not illogcial. I am angry a lot, because I have a lot of time on my hands, being that I work at home and have insomnia- I read a tremendous amount of shit. I am aware that the average American does not have the 20 to 30 hours a week I have to devote to this kind of thing, so I spout off about some of the key issues I find, hoping to provide a launching place for those who wish to investigate further. I don't ever want to be anyone's decision-maker, nor do I wish to substitute my opinion for someone's own careful research.

I watch mainstream news, usually ABC and FOX, I also read the BBC page, Yahoo news, and random articles from China, India, and Afghanistan, to attempt to get a broader view of what our news is telling us, as compared to what the other key players are hearing. I check in at the Daily Kos, and Stormfront to get the extreme left and right views as well. I say this only to let you know that although I AM a shrieking liberal, it is not without being informed. Shit, I even watch the Crystal Palace tv evangelist program on Sunday mornings, but subscribe to Sojourner's newletter by email (thanks, JustAsking).

I've put a fair amount of time into keeping up with the goings on of the Carlyle Group, ever since 9/11, so I didn't just suddenly find out about it.
It would take me some time to gather my evidence and state my case for why I find them such a threat, but if you wish, I'll do it. I wouldn't expect you to take my word for it if you haven't read much about them yet yourself. I just don't want to go to the trouble for you to dismiss it as left-wing bullshit without even reading it.

edit- I apologise for all the typos in my post #17- I was on my way out the door and apparently forgot to edit. I hope it is still understandable enough.

Surprisingly, I agree with you. The right answer is B. In fact it is a company's responsibility to its stockholders to pursue B.

"Any one may so arrange his affairs that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which will best pay the Treasury; there is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes..."
-Judge Learned Hand.

Although I am a flaming, screaming liberal who believes in equitable distribution of wealth, I also recognize that the gov't is not always the best distributor of it. Everyone should give 10% of their income to charitable organizations and get big tax breaks when they do that.

JA, of course I agree with that. Tax minimization is the responsibility of any well appointed corporation or individual, in fact, I don't advocate paying taxes to a government that is in default of its obligations to its citizens at all. That's not my beef with Carlyle though.

What I am accusing Carlyle of is conflict of interest with the American people, which is in conflict with the government. In the private sector, it would be insider trading, and Martha Stewart went to jail for that. Sadly, when our government hands a no-bid contract to Carlyle (Haliburton, Parsons, et al), provides NO oversight as to where the money goes, billions come up missing, THEN the corporation relocates out of the country to avoid investigation, that's a big problem for me, and the American people.

I think we should all refuse to pay taxes while we are in an illegal war.
