For years I've kept up with the world press, and since the Soviet Union fell, Pravda has actually proven to be a surprisingly good news source, much less biased about US politics than the US news sources. Being an outsider, in such matters, can be a good thing.

This little gem is from their opinion page, but since it comes from an outside observer, it becomes a particularly interesting read. Especially the parts which quote Putin.

Well, any normal individual understands that as true but liberalism is a psychosis . O'bomber even keeps the war going along the Mexican border with projects like "fast and furious" and there is still no sign of ending it. He is a Communist without question promoting the Communist Manifesto without calling it so.
Is this a joke?

Fuzzy encourages multiple sources for news, but this... this is something else entirely.

Maybe you should keep looking.

Why would you think it's a joke? It's clearly marked as an op ed piece, so it's a perfectly valid opinion. And, a rather interesting one, seeing that it is basically a former socialist recounting any number of techniques familiar to those who once lived under the soviet state.

Or, does it bother you that a newspaper would publish something that disagrees with your beliefs?

Communist and capitalist are labels adopted by opposing sides in a real war for control of territory in the world. They dont have meaningful academic definitions, at least not as they are usually used. Russia is far from an ideal state and has changed little from 1900 or so when it first toyed with introducing democracy. Which is not intended to criticise the way of life Russians have chosen, but is to suggest the article is wrong when it implies life in Russia now is an ideal standard by which to judge others.

Which isnt to deny that outsiders views are interesting, just to say they may not be very useful. That war isnt over yet. Russia is paradoxically in denial about the beneficial aspects of communism while confused about what will replace it.

My thoughts, exactly.

It might seem very convenient for the guys on the right to point to this and say, "Look, even Russia seems how much of a commie Obama is!" But I don't. It's Russia. They are certainly not our friends.

Outside opinions are enlightening when you actually learn something, not when it's more trash claiming Obama to be a communist when he's not.

Outside views are great, but this is terribly-written, rambly, and full of slippery slope fallacies. The "American Pie" allusion makes no damn sense at all. This might as well be an extended Facebook rant from someone's AOL-using aunt.

Barack Obama a communist, lol, seriously.

Not only that but he claims that the site is less biased about US politics despite the article accusing Obama of being a communist :lmao:

I'm surprised at the reaction this is getting.

International sources are always a favorite cry for the pseudo-intellectuals on college campuses, etc. And, Pravda was always a perennial favorite back when *I* was in college...heck, being anti-American was almost a requirement.

Besides, if translated, the name means TRUTH! (WINK)

"This little gem"...............

Honestly?

Who but the completely ignorant wouldn't see your post as a nakedly ridiculous, and extremely poorly crafted attempt at a partisan shot at Obama?

Really pathetic.

Pravda's reputation is hardly stellar. They have a tendency to be rather hyperbolic.

And you're going to the "правда = truth" argument? That is about as weak as you can get. By that same argument, I can say that this pizza place by me, which in its name claims to have the best pizza, obviously has the best pizza despite the fact that it's quite terrible.

RNGR, you make a thread about some no-namer over seas who's clinging to the lie that Obama is a Communist and then call that article "enlightening" and you're wondering why you're getting the reaction you're getting? But I guess I should be thanking you though, you finally gave me a reason to put you on ignore.

I think outside opinions can be very interesting - but not necessarily true.

I think the article is miles off-target. It'll take more than a bit of ObamaCare to turn capitalist, right-wing America into a communist country. Their overall tax take is miles away from socialist Europe's - never mind the former USSR's.

As for Putin - he says one thing and does another. As far as I can see, the evidence suggests he's returning to the communist way of doing things, rather than moving away from it.

Here we get a TV cable channel called Russia Today and I think it is quite interesting to watch it.

RT is biased to be sure, but no more so than FOX News. I like to flip around between BBC, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, Al Jazeera, RT, France 24. The thing I lik best about RT is their series showing different parts of Russia called Russia Close-up. Very interesting stuff about placed you would never otherwise learn about. Russia Close-Up (archive)

What's funny is that the Tea Partier's paradise is closest to Russia when you think about it. It's a mostly white country where religion has a large influence through the Russian Orthodox Church. It's wild capitalism at play with corporations as kings. There are few regulations and the survival of the fittest and most powerful. The ones who buy off government ensure it stays out of their lives. Sounds like K Street to me.

Fuzzy recommended Al Jazeera, CBC and the BBC in a thread for somebody who was asking for good non-US sources. They all seem pretty responsible. MSNBC and FOX are biased but it's good to peek in on what the other half is watching/thinking.

Fuzzy's "little gem" was Alyona on RT. Her show was cancelled in July, unfortunately. She's a liberal but, like Maddow, she knows the issues and gets her facts straight. RT may be biased, but it's also not mainstream and you won't hear many talking points.
