Actually there was diving during the swim classes but it was optional. The teacher never made any of us dive if we didn’t want to, and I never wanted to. I remember some of the boys would grab their dicks and balls as they dove off the board to keep them from flopping around!
Not to mention, protect their balls from the SMACK as they enter the water! Not exactly regulation diving form. haha

I think part of it was also that in our school up until senior year, boys always had to take swimming class nude but girls were given bathing suits to wear during their class. So by senior year when we were given the option, there was a sense that it was kind of effeminate to want to wear a swimsuit in an all male swim class. Plus, we’d already seen each other’s dicks in the showers after every gym class and during every swim class for the first 3 years of high school. For me, it just seemed more masculine and more mature to be in the half of the class who couldn’t be bothered wearing swimsuits. And I know at least some of the boys who opted to wear swimsuits admired and maybe envied the self confidence of those of us who didn‘t.
Admired the ... what did you say? Did you see where they were looking and the bump in their suits?

When I was new to gym showers I wore the clean towel into the showers but was naked in the shower room. After a few years I did not even unroll the towel (rolled tight to fit in my gym backpack) until I got to the towel hook in the shower room. At some point you’ve been naked with so many other men (you saw them, they see you) that any effort to cover just seems unneeded for any reason.

This is why the old mandatory gym class showers were healthy. One of my good friends in high school I found out years later was gay, I used to shower next to him every gym class. I don't get that people are worried a gay guy will see their cock. If you've showered enough there is no doubt multiple gay guys have seen it. So what it is just a cock.
I agree with your comment. Back in the day we had no choice and we all realized we were pretty much the same - sure we were various sizes from the unfortunate (like me) to the gifted and talented! Now as a 60 year old who has joined the local gym I am realizing just how uncomfortable the younger generation is with being naked in the shower while others are using the showers.

I see it as well, as someone who’s showered with other men his entire life: lots of men over 65 at my gym/spa, and they’re consistently naked the most. Guys under 35 do the silly towel dance, or just don’t shower. Then there are the couple of guys under 30 I’ve seen that have worn bathing suits in the steam and sauna on multiple occasions when I’ve been completely naked.

I don’t mind walking to the shower naked. I’m not huge but I don’t give a shit. I know the current generation has issues but I’ve been over it since high school and college back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. We had a 6 head shower room in my dorm. I saw some guys who were smaller than me, and some who were just huge.

great discussion. I dont think many men have the opportunity to express how gym lockers can make them feel insecure, ashamed etc. Depending on your culture nudity can be taboo or something to be avoided entirely.
When i started going to gym i never thought about showering/changing there. As a man who's attracted to men it actually felt a bit intrusive. I felt out of place and scared someone will judge me/my intentions.
Fast forward 2 years of consistent training, ive gotten more accustom to my body and more confident in my looks. I started showering after gym which is 100% better than getting into my car sweaty and then heading home to hop in the shower, which also adds more time to the entire 'gym session'
I thought about doing the awkward towel dance etc but got fed and even more anxious about that thought. As someone said, its a lockerroom, you shouldnt be surprised seeing nudity as people are going about their business. As a brown guy, i noticed that alot of the brown guys would try their best to cover up. I didnt want to fall into that trap, i appreciated that many british folk felt comfortable enough in their own skin to strip and walk uncovered to the showers and take their time to dry off afterwards.
Since ive started, ive noticed its mainly other brown guys that give me questionable glances as when im fully naked. I chuck it up to their own insecurities? i proud of my body and my cock is pretty decent too, dont think alot of guys expect to see something this size between my legs lol.
End of the day, im there to workout and feel clean and ready for work afterwards, we're all men and some guys need to get over themselves lol.
im a young guy too, and feel like most younger guys have started to shy away from lockerroom nudity. Hopefully changing the trend can help men feel more confident in their bodies

Well from your pictures you look larger than average soft. So think most of them were smaller ;)

Good for you! I'm glad you overcame your concerns about being naked in front of other guys. We older men applaud you. lol Maybe you will convince a few more of the "brown" gentlemen that it's ok to be comfortable and casual naked. ;)

I feel the same way - I too grew up in the late 70s early 80s where that was the normal shower set up. I have invited my son in law to work out with me - he was very active in school playing multiple sports; however he too is of the generation who does the towel dance. I continue to be amused at the younger generation and the level of modesty displayed when all your doing is performing a basic bodily maintenance by showering.

Interesting story

Went gym this morning and had a pretty intense session. Looked forward to stripping off and heading ion the hot showers. The gym i go to has around 8 cubicles. some of the doors dont lock so youve got to close the door but it usually remains open just a smidge.
today i was showering, around 5 mins in the door opens and a tall muscular older guy tries coming in, fully clothed. he was surprised i was in there, dont think he knew it was occupied lol. He immediately glances at my cock which is chubby because of the hot water. I say sorry man door wont close and he looks flustered as fuck lol, doesnt say anything just looks away and goes to another cubicle.
I reckon hes in his 40s, kinda felt bad for him honestly. hes in shape, looks good but still goes to and from the showers scared of being seen naked. I'm more than happy that ive been growing my confidence in this type of environment because i'll hate to get to his age and still be worried about being judged because of my body/cock size.
Got to get comfortable with yourself!

Happy to report we are making progress. The son in law is becoming more comfortable and has greatly reduced the towel dance routine. I think he finally realized I’m not judging or evaluating him - plus it probably helps that he has recognized he has a much larger package - yet I’m not the least bit uncomfortable.

I think my biggest issue with being naked in front of others and showering with others is the hair on my body.
I am in Germany and having hairy pits and pubes is pretty much a big no-no and automatically attracts attention. I don't know if I would ever feel comfortable which sucks, cause I should keep my body and body hair as I want it!
But most people don't see it that way and some are downright disgusted by hair in those places.

I see many furry guys in the locker room—furry backs, furry chests, furry asses…And most not-furry men retain pit hair and pubic hair (sometimes trimmed). I think you are doing something that comes natural unfortunately which is to fixate on some exposure that prevents communal showering. Some think their dick is too small, their tummy too big, etc. And they think dudes in the shower are like a jury ready to judge them. First that just is not so. Moreover the overcoming part of joining the communal shower is having unshame. There is no reason a man with alot of body hair should be worried about that. I encourage you to get your furry ass into the showers. :).

When I first started going to the gym as an adult I didn't want to stink up my car, so showering was important to me. My gym had an open shower room with about 12 shower heads in a U type configuration, and the shower room was situated so anyone coming into or out of the locker room had a view straight into the shower.

As showering was not the custom in my high school, I wasn't used to it. My work around was to spend time in the sauna after my workout so I was absolutely sweaty and gross, and this gave me the courage to shower in public as I absolutely did not want to get in my car like that.

Im from Holland, the gym I go to has open showers but with dividers between shower heads (no curtains). Most guys shower naked, and that is all ages. Most people who towel off in the locker room do it completely naked. Also all ages. The sauna get's used by all ages and most just sit naked on a towel. However most Immigrants (non European) wear underwear. And some native guys do also so, mostly younger guys in there twenties.

The light was out in the sauna again and the only light was coming from the shower room. When I walked into the sauna only one other person was there. I had a large towel around my waist and a smaller towel over my shoulder. I put the small towel on the bench, took off the towel around my waist and put it around my shoulders and took a seat. I sat back far enough on the small towel to flip the part i wasn't sitting on over my "nuggets". Nothing was said and we both enjoyed the sauna in peace.
