Over the last year I've lost 70lbs by changing my eating habits and basically using my bike to go anywhere within 5 miles of home. In April I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I realize it is even more important now to develop a healthier lifestyle, including a good exercise habit.

A friend gave me a copy of P90X which he purchased but never used. I've been reading all the materials and looking at the DVD's. Has anyone else used this workout program? Any thoughts about it?

I've already figured out that I can do the exercises but their diet plan, nutrition bars and shakes are a no-go for a diabetic.

This is basically my "before" photo: http://www.lpsg.com/gallery/photos/933041/

It works if you are willing to take the time. If you do anything for an hour to and hour and a half it will work. I ended up using the ab ripper and select videos every few days and doing a split weight routine. If you can commit it works wonders, though....

I've not done it but I know quite a few people who have used it and every one of them was thrilled with their results. People of all fitness levels, too... From sedentary/obese, to college football player, to personal trainer.

Thanks for all the replies. I got through the first week of it and so far, so good. They only problem I have with it is Tony Horton is too much of an overstimulated bro. I know he's trying to be motivating but he just comes across as very annoying.

I guess I'll be back in 30, 60 and 90 days to update this thread with my progress. So far, I can say that I'd recommend it. The workouts are hard but not impossible. The equipment you need isn't that hard to find or purchase. A huge plus for me is it eliminates the need for me to drive 20 minutes to the gym at odd hours to workout. Again, my only problem is that the moderator of the videos is very annoying.

I bought the PiYo (from Beach body also) and have yet to do it because frankly I just can't motivate myself to workout to a DVD in my livingroom. If you are one who can then more power to you! I think something is only as effective as your willingness to stick to it. i need to be at the gym in a class with other humans, otherwise I just wont do it.

Reminds me of a friend who bought TaeBo DVDs. She said she didn't feel like working out, so she just ate cheese doodles and drank soda on the couch while watching the DVD.

Any updates for us?
Yeah, I'm curious too. Can PFP let us know how he's doing?
His first three-month report should have been in October—and his second report would be due any day now.
I hope he's kept up with the program, or maybe taken up another conditioning program in its place.

I think and have seen great results without using their diet plan..... Just keep the oreos to a minimum and you will be pleased with your results

I'm a big fan of P90X 3. The original P90X was good but some of the workouts got close to an hour and a half. With 3 all your workouts are about 30 minutes and they're pretty easy to fit in a lunch break. My old job had a gym in the building so I could take my lunch break, do the workout, shower, and be back to work in under an hour. Lost about 10lbs doing that and playing hockey on a weekly basis.

God help me I even started to enjoy Tony Horton's lame jokes.

It works, if you stay committed and give it your all, there should not be a reason why you wouldn't see results. Unless you disregard a healthy eating approach then results will vary. I find it is easier to follow the program with a friend as you guys will constantly try to push yourself to do better.

It can be a bit much to jump into the P90 series if you’re not in some semblance of shape to begin with. You must follow the diet program to get the best results. Your diet, if not healthy, must change. Listen to your body, it will tell you things, some exercises may actually cause you harm, so you’ll have to change to another similar type of exercise, or avoid that movement or portion altogether. I have bad knees from too much baseball of all things, and there are some things I just can’t do without aggravating an old injury, and setting myself back.
You have to have the will to push through. It’s all on you.

Although it can be challenging, it is very helpful and I did see results. P90x and Insanity were some of the first programs I've tried , they allowed me to create my own workouts and reach my goals. Give it a shot for sure !
